I have read many threads on this topic .......however there is not a crisp answer to this question, that i have been able to find.......

(1) is there any special processing or considerations that occurs with loa candidates for moc (congressman/woman) or senators nominations..... That does not occur with non-loa candidates?

(2) are loa candidates charged against moc and/or senator nomination allotments.......for example: If a congressman has nominated three loa candidates and seven non-loa candidates.......are the three loa candidates a zero, one or three nomination charge against the congressman's ten nomination allotment to the service academy?

(3) lastly, does anyone know of a real life example, and just not just specualtion, where a candidate got a loa but not a nomination.....and hence the candidate did not get an appointment to the service academy.....

Thanks in advance with help on the three points above......

Pasquinel.....

I am aware of a situation in which a candidate did not receive a nomination from any MOC, so two academies activated his vice presidential nomination - he got his offer of appointment on that basis. If you have not filed for a VP nom with your academy of choice you might be well advised to do so asap.

no crisp answer because each MOC does it in whatever manner they please so the answer is not the same for everyone.

no, there is no special set processing for an LOA - each MOC does it anyway they want - some make every effort to always give the LOA a nom and some don't

I know it's been discussed here before but it is very complicated. Bottom line is that the LOA recipient MAY not be charged but COULD be charged. Depends on several factors. One example: MOC sends in an unranked competitive slate. SA will appoint (and charge to the MOC) the candidate with the highest WCS - even if that candidate has an LOA. IF the MOC submits a ranked slate and gives the LOA the 1st spot - that LOA would be charged. If, however, the MOC submits a ranked slate and ranks the LOAs low on the list, the #1 on the ranked slate is charged to the mOC and the LOAs are not charged. There are many iterations of this but that gives the general idea.

(3) lastly, does anyone know of a real life example, and just not just specualtion, where a candidate got a loa but not a nomination.....and hence the candidate did not get an appointment to the service academy.....

Yes. I know of several. Biggest reason: candidate did not apply for all nominations for which candidate was eligible thereby not showing the degree of thorough dedication to the application process (and other things).

Hope that helps ...

Isn't it too late to apply for VP nomination now?

Isn't it too late to apply for VP nomination now?

I know that about a week ago I received a letter from the office of the Vice President stating that I was in competition for a nomination to West Point. I think it may be late but I would contact your Admissions Rep. because it is mainly the Academy involved in the process.

VP nom deadline

The webite for VP Biden clearly states no applications will be considered if postmarked after 10/31. It is too late.
