Well, it's officially December and we could receive our answers anytime between the 15th and the 24th. Hopefully it won't be after the 24th since CGHQ decided to increase the class size perhaps throwing a little monkey wrench into the works, but hey, I'm so glad they did. My son got a 8.5x11 white envelope from CGA yesterday. I was freaking out to say the least, but I knew that it was still too early. Well, it turned out to be a really nice portfolio explaining different majors offered at the academy. My son was given the same one by his CG interviewer a few weeks back, so I knew what it was as soon as he pulled it out. Keep posting gang so we can CONGRATULATE all the fine young men and women who are going to serve. It's so hard to go through this whole process (just ask Shellz, JCollins, etc--they are tried and true!) and try to explain it to a person who has no idea of what an accompishment and honor it is to be selected for the CGA. I even had one person come up to me after I told her that my son wanted to serve at a SA and how competitive it is to be selected, and she looked at me and said, "Oh really (wince-wince), I thought he was a good student." Can you believe it! Anyway Good Luck and the Lord's blessings to all. -officer :thumb:
 
Would it help or make a difference to let CGA know that we have received a nomination from our Senator for Kings Point? My son got a call from his Senator's office last night!
 
CONGRATULATIONS!

Terrific news! I asked a similiar question regarding my son's application. He received a 4 year NROTC scholarship to A&M. I can't remember if it was Luigi or Objee that said (paraphrased)... I could send the information in, and at best it will be a small positive, and at worst not hurt one way or the other. I don't think CG admissions wil look at it as not being fully committed to the CG, just fully commited to serve. I decided to not send it in on this EA round, but if we get bumped to RA, I might. -officer
 
For the longest time, my youngest son has always gotten the mail out of the box, on his way home from his bus stop. Lately, the box has been empty, because I've beaten him to it! Now, that we know nothing else is coming in the near future, I will go back to letting him get the mail...he seems really disappointed when there is nothing in there! After the 15th though, I may just go out and check to see what's in the box, but leave it for him to bring in!!

I don't know what's worse: not going out to get the mail and wondering if there's something important in it or getting the mail, seeing an envelope from USCGA, USNA or USMMA and not having son get home until 5pm to open it!!!

I 've also heard of another option that I couldn't bear to do myself. Sneek the letter out of the mailbox and put under the Christmas tree! Yikes

My daughter received her nomination to KP last year...... We were told here that it really would'nt make a difference at CGA.......

But hey congrats on the nomination!!! KP rocks!

After my daughter received her KP-Prep appointment we visited KP.. She really liked it, and we had a great visit there, but when the CGA appointment came in.... Her dream to attend CGA was closer to reality.

She will be stalking the mail carrier or the Chief when appointment letters are sent to NMMI in March. :biggrin: I will just be awaiting the phone call.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh no..... I couldnt wait... Shoot when her letter for AIM letter showed up I was crying and jumping up and down...

When the letters came from KP and CGA we were trying to read thru the envelopes ha ha ha.. flashlights DID NOT help, we thought about steaming the envelopes.. but opted to await her getting home from her after school sports.....

You're a hoot about steaming the letters. I can't get away with that since my son is homeschooled, so he knows exactly when the mail gets here. A few threads prior to this one, Objee said it isn't likely anyone will here until after the 15th, but I just got done reading posts (#20 page) and saw that there was an appointment received as early as December 4th. WHOA! Now my mind (and stomach) are really whirling. I just ate a huge piece of pizza and feel like I'm going to be sick :eek: after seeing that post. I gotta get my 10,000 steps in tomorrow to deal with this stress. -officer

Relax, that "ain't happenin" this year. :wink:

Since Dec 15th is a Tuesday, if all of the packages (and dreaded thin envelopes) are mailed by Friday 12/18 you can be pretty sure you'll have one or the other by Christmas, as they take about 2-3 days via Priority Mail.

EDIT - getting a "thin envelope" is not bad as you're still eligible for an appointment under RA.
 
I don't think I could "cave" to steaming open an envelope; however, I have held several up to the window to see if I could read any of the printing inside. I have to say, they don't make envelopes like they used to!! Must be all these re-cycled papers, because you can't see a thing!!! Of course, I would never admit this to my family!

But it IS significantly more fun! Got a call from the cadet tonight that made me smile. Love those unexpected calls home. :smile:

The mail comes when the sun is right in my face, I can hold it up and get a glimpse. With all the applications she has out this is the one that she is hoping for the most. Whatever happens I'll miss her. I told her to stay back for a year (Red shirt her). I guess once all the kids are off to college we have to check in to Florida.
I'm not checking the mailbox anymore. I'm just going to stand outside the mailman's house and follow him into work.:rolleyes:

Just when I thought all that was remaining was the postal watch: our daughter received email yesterday from CGA Engineering Department stating she had a "very competitive application" and that they will be following up with phone call...

Are they recruiting, enticing or adding another layer of 'weeding out' to the selection process.

Not even a two hour walk was enough to calm my nerves this morning.
 
This thread is so cracking me up!!!! I remember a year ago.... the excitement.. the fear.. the running to the mail box.. or calling my son (since he got home first) and having him check the mail and call me with a list of WHAT ARRIVED in the mailbox.. ha ha ha

this is Parenting at it's best! :shake::thumb:

PS I never steamed open a letter...:rolleyes:

:thumb: Way to go! What do you think warranted the phone call (made her very competitive in other words). It truly is a weird thing to try to get inside their heads and know what they are looking for in a cadet. Sometimes it seems in all the SA's--not just CG--that someone is a great choice, but they just weren't what they were looking for. 2 hour walks!-- BUN'S O' PLATINUM, here we come, keep posting and hopefully we'll be CONGRATULATING our kids together very soon. -officer
