Does nomination trigger new look at file?

Does anyone know if receiving a nomination triggers the Admissions Board to take another look at your file at the next meeting of the Board.

I understand that you cannot get an appointment without a nomination, but I was just wondering if it was considered an "update" to your file, like new SAT's, etc.

Thanks!

No.....you just get that box checked off so to speak. New SAT's might mean points added to your Whole Candidate Score, but there is no reason for a "second look." Same with new CFA.

jenny, is the Nomination information transmitted directly to the SA or is candidate intervention necessary? Or is there some other process going on, like the DoDMERB, another item checked off the 'bigger list'?

Hopefully I'll need to know at some point, but not right now.

Son's info showed up on USNA candidate status page about 10 days after phone call from congressional nom source. No action was taken on our part

The MOC submits the nomination information to the SA directly, there is no action needed by the candidate. The MOC may send it right away or they may wait until the due date of January 31st. There is a mechanism for them to submit it via secure web site. They also have a document that the MOC him/herself has to sign and mail. This can sometimes cause a delay since Congress is in session. However, I believe that once the online submission is done it typically shows up on the candidate web portal about two weeks later. The key is that the MOC does not have to submit it until January 31st. While they may inform the candidate ahead of time, they may not submit the slate to the SA until closer to the due date.

Once the complete slate is submitted by the MOC the SA does review all candidate files on the slate again. Importantly, however, if not all candidates have completed their file, the SA may not select an appointee until all candidates have completed their files and/or the deadline has passed for them to do so.

2011's Mom is right. They do look at the slate and see if everyone's app is complete. But they aren't going to open your file and decide to reconsider your WCS. And it is absolutely correct that they make look at Senator X's slate of nominees and let's say 2 do not have complete apps and they look thus far like desirable candidates. They will delay a decision on that slate until they have all the info they want. Remember, candidates have until March to get their app complete.

It is in the best interest of candidates to get their apps in early, but not all do. You may have your app in, nom in hand and be playing the waiting game through no action of yours.

Those MOC noms show up on your candidate page after MOC submits them. No action necessary on the part of the candidate. Good idea to watch your page and make darned certain it shows up, though!

There are two conditions which might force a file to go back to the board:
1. If a candidate received a PRINCIPAL Nomination and was not qualified - they will re-look and see if the candidate can be qualified.
2. If none of the candidates on the slate are qualified when the slate is recieved - they will probably run them by the board again to see if one will be qualified.

Thanks, jennyp and Just A Mom, for your insights into this process.

So, am I right in understanding that an updated CFA also doesn't trigger a re-look? (Sorry, this mom can be a little dense at times!) Son won't be re-taking any SAT's (he's been taking them since 7th grade and he doesn't think taking them again will improve his score significantly), so if his application has been before the Board (don't even know if it has), then am I correct in thinking it won't be looked at again?

Thanks for your help!

I asked that exact question last fall when I was on the yard while son was at CVW. I went in to Admissions Office. Asked first if there was anything else he could do to improve his app. They were very nice, looked up his file, told me he was triple Q'd. I said he was planning to retake CFA and asked how they handled updated results. Was told they have a formula and significantly improved scores would mean points added but that the file was not reviewed again by the board.

Which makes perfect sense. They have reviewed the file, assigned a WCS, and have hundreds to look at. If the only updates are CFA, that can be handled by the folks in the office updating the files.
