The scholarship status website for the AROTC is back up!
Hope it has good news for you!

Finally! I see the page is back up this week, but my son's status is still showing that he needs to schedule and interview with the PMS at a school of his choice. He interviewed on Oct. 30th...should we assume this is a typical delay or should my son contact the school where he interviewed as a follow-up? His first school choice is VMI, but we live in Raleigh so he interviewed at NC State. Was this a mistake? NC State is on his list, but everything is secondary to VMI.

The status will stay that way until a scholarship is awarded.

Well, this is very discouraging. My son's status has still not changed on the website, but I keep reading where other people's status is changing. He was accepted to VMI last week, so he called the AROTC contact there today and was told that there is no information on file for him at all! They suggested we call Cadet Command, and it was confirmed that nothing has been submitted for my son--no transcript, no interview, no PFA, NOTHING. All of this was submitted on October 30th when he had his interview. I am frantic at this point! The school is telling me that they sent everything on November 16th, but CC says they have nothing. Now he has missed this month's board and no telling what I should do now.

I am a little confused

Let's go down the list and see how this can be addressed.

1) Transcript - CC has a fax number. Call his guidance office at his school and have them fax his trascript this morning. Same goes with ACT/SAT score reports. I know that CC accepted faxed ACT scores for goaliegirl.

2) PFA (PFT?) - Was this the Presidential Fitness test at school (with height/weight done by nurse) or the APFT administered at your interview? In either case, contact either your son's school or the PMS where he intereviewed with the fax number.

3) Interview missing??? - Yikes! Once again, time to call and get the fax going. The PMS, especially if it is at his #1 school, will be motivated to talk to CC and make sure things happen.

If you have been emailing CC, they typically put their fax number on their correspondence. If you have been calling, they should be able to give you the fax number there.

BTW, if it makes you feel any better, last night we learned from goaliegirl's #2 school that they don't know she was taped (and passed) at her interview. They were concerned and suggested a taping. Her weight exceeds the limit for her height (very typical of female hockey players and goalies in particular - doing a check on the USA 18U national statistics about 1/3 of them don't qualify and they are world-class athletes). We knew about this potential issue and thought we had addressed it last August. I am currently waiting for an answer from CC on what happened.

If you can get ahold of all documents needed:

. High School Transcript
(official copy)

. Activities sheet (to be verified by Guidance Counselor)...can't remember when they send this to you. Otherwise, print off the application from the online website and have counselor initial each page regarding activities

. Copy of official SAT and ACT scores (the one that the college board sends you)

. PFT

. Have nurse verify height and weight. Nurse sign/school stamp

. resume

. copy of online application

make copies of everything

FAX to Cadet Command with cover letter explaining situation in concise sentences. Include that son has been accepted at school. CC the scholarship officer at the college.

FEDEX to Cadet Command

FAX copy to scholarship officer, showing that they were CCd everything

Scan all documents and email Cadet Command

Do this immediately.

Let scholarship officer know what you have done/ask them to follow up in a week. they want you, they should help you through this problem. Ask them to resubmit interview as soon as possible.

Good Luck!

Even better advice! Being redundant never hurt in the Army.

Follow up with your PMS about the interview.
I had to e-mail them a couple weeks after the interview explaining that the interview had not yet been posted. They then sent it to CC again.

Thanks to all of you for your advice!! I have copies of everything and have scanned and emailed it to Cadet Command. Good idea to fax and Fed Ex as well; I will do that this afternoon. The problem is the interview. I don't have any documention on that, so I suppose I have to have faith that the Captain I spoke to at the school will be able to resolve it. She assured me she would call me back today, but let's just say I've been assured that everything was squared away each time that I have called there and things are not working out as planned.
I know things fall through the cracks, and I am trying to be patient. The fact that he has virtually no chance of making this board has me really bummed. I know the more time that passes, the less money is available. I was trying not to be a pushy mom and just let the system work itself out, but I guess that is naive and I will need to follow up, follow up, follow up!

Don't beat yourself up over this. It is not like you didn't try to make sure things were sent. Not everyone knows the secrets of how the whole process works (or occasionally fails).

As to slots filling up, I'll say this much - CC will be awarding between 3 and 5 offers for every 1 scholarship accepted, as an applicant can only accept 1. There are likely to be a few slots available at the next board. And if he was likely to get an offer this round, he is even more likely to get an offer in the next round as the pickings start getting slimmer.

There is a life lesson to be learned by your son in all of this too. Learn everything you can before you start something. Do your best at it. Accept the results. And enjoy what you do get.

Keep us posted after you finish with Fed-Ex and the fax machine.

goliedad, from your keyboard to God's ears. :shake:

ETA: All kidding aside, I checked Son's status around 8:30 am and logged in successfully. So, the outage is very new.

That is probably good news that it went down during a weekday as opposed to a random database/server/router outage while system is unattended during a weekend. More likely to be intentional.

No white smoke over the Vatican yet...

Just to give an update on my son's drama. We sent everything again last week, and he received an email from CC on Friday that his application is complete and he will go before the next board on January 12-15. The webpage still shows the same status--"you have been selected for an interview, contact PMS at school of your choice"

So I guess I will continue to ignore the status and assume the email is correct.

Lesson learned--do what they say in writing, NOT what you are told over the phone! That seems like a pretty obvious common sense statement, but I learned it the hard way.

Good luck to all!

Sorry to hear that his application has to wait.

Let's hope that things turn out better for him in January.

And thank you for the dates for January. This would imply that the December Board letters will be in the mail by the end of the week, as you've got to process the December acceptances before you give out January's.

And thank you again for sharing your experience for the rest of us to learn by.

OK, I just went in to check status and it is back up again. And status hasn't changed....

The news won't be up for another couple of weeks according to an email I received from Cadet Command. They told me that the board met last week and this week they have to merge the OML scores from the last board and this board and decide the scholarships. She also said it would then be the week after that the notifications would start going out.

OK. So, best case scenario would be that they start mailing on Monday, Dec 21. That means pre-Christmas news is still possible.

(We need a horse shoe, fingers-crossed, 4-leaf-clover smiley. )
