When do candidates start requesting interviews with their FFR? Or how does that whole process work?

And what questions are usually asked?

Thank you in advance?

Hi! Am I to assume you are a 2026 candidate? If so, put forth the best application you can. Absolutely nail it. If there are places for improvement (test scores, accolades, athletic achievements etc) continue to update admissions politely and humbly.
There will be a point in your application where your FFR will be tasked with scheduling an interview with you. In our DS case, he finished app to include DODMERB and hadn’t heard from FFR. His regional counselor set up and initiated the scheduling of the interview. That interview was tough. No punches pulled. It lit a fire under him. Embrace the process.

Great advice already said. I would also add to email your FFR introducing yourself and explain how excited you are to compete for an appointment to West Point, also ask if you and he could discuss your application over phone or email if that’s best. This will not only put you on his radar, but also show your interest and seriousness about West Point. Also email your state coordinator introducing yourself as well.

If I have already introduced myself to both my regional commander and FFR last year around the beginning of my junior year, should I keep emailing them to keep in contact? Or should I wait until my application is in progress on the portal?

Stay in contact, Q&A, etc, but do not ask for the formal interview yet. FFR will reach out to you when the time is right for them. We typically expect to see majority of files completed on competitive candidates before reaching out to schedule interviews. Various FFR handle this separately. I handle a very competitive district, so I do not interview candidates until I see test scores in 90+ percentiles and a passed CFA. Later in the cycle for candidates slow to populate files - I also wait for a nomination. Good luck...
