I just checked my status online for USAFA. Last week my application was complete, but now it shows as imcomplete and after a closer look there is a CFA #2 posted as imcomplete. I haven't recieved anything in the mail regarding this. Does anyone know what this may be. I am planning on calling my ALO tomorrow.

Thanks!

What were your scores? It's likely that they like you as a candidate but would like to see a better CFA score. Last year I was asked to retake it in January. I re-submitted in early February and received my appointment about two weeks later.

Buffalo is correct, you look like a strong candidate, but they are concerned about your physical fitness. The key is that the AFA looks at the CFA because the altitude is a killer when the cadets 1st get there for BCT. The last thing they want is you to not make it through BCT because of your physical fitness abilities.

Do not rush it in hopes of getting an appt faster. Instead, take your time and try to max everything, or at least show great change in your scores. Remember, the files do not close until Mar 1. If you use the next 6 weeks to dedicate for the CFA you will increase your chances of an apptmt.

Also do not think they look badly on you because they requested it, instead look at it as they believe in you. They don't offer every cadet the chance to re-take, only very few special candidates are given the ability to re-take. This is why I always stress make sure you submit the absolute best CFA, because once it is done it is locked unless they re-open it for you.

Good luck.

Check the letter you will receive and trust me, one is coming. It will tell you that they are requiring a retest and will give you a Not Later Than (NLT) date for completion. When I spoke with the folks at USAFA they said something like Feb 15th.

Now...why are you getting it? EXACTLY what Pima and others have said: the AFA has seen SOMETHING that they like about you (hint: your candidate package) BUT your CFA score was...politely put, LOW. LOW to the point that you are NOT considered competitive.

I don't like to be painfully blunt like this but you need to know. FYI, I have a candidate here in my state that I am working with that received the same letter. I know what his scores were (don't ask, I can't divulge) and they basically ELIMINATE him from consideration.

FYI...this kid is perfect for USAFA, fit, etc...etc...he just screwed up the CFA because he didn't really understand it. He NOW understands it, is practicing, and will do much better.

So...if you remember your individual scores per event, you can PM me (or speak with your ALO and find out what the numbers are you need) and then WORK LIKE CRAZY to achieve them!!! :thumb:

Anything else I can say/do, don't hesitate to ask!

Here's my scores:

pullups - 7
crunches - 51
bball throw - 58
pushups - 43
shuttle run - 9.00
mile - 8:02

I have PM'd a rather lengthy "here's my $6.76 cents worth..." :thumb:

I believe many candidates are like Fliegers that believe the CFA is no biggie, and rush to get it done to get an early appt. It can come back and bite you if you follow this path. The lesson for class of 15 that are lurking right now is to start practicing now, especially if you plan to attend SLS because they will give you the CFA during that course. Those scores will be used for your application. SOOOO, if you can't do a pull up now, start practicing. Pull-ups are typically the most difficult, the best suggestion is to buy a pull up bar and place it in your bedroom doorway, do it everyday and you will be fine in a few months. The other one is a bball throw, practice...practice...practice.

Finally for the class of 15, you always want to be as close to a max, and def under the requirements for the AF, i.e. 8 minute mile is too slow, the max pt for the run is in the 5 min mile, you need to be in the low 7.

For re-hashing these are the maxs I recall for DS 2 yrs ago
BBALL : 100
PULL-UPS: 18
SIT-UPS: 95
PUSH-UPS: @80 (I think it was 85)
RUN: 5:30
SHUTTLE: 7 something

It is not a max everything and fail one thing sit., it is like everything else the "WHOLE". Max everything, but can only do 1 pull up, it will hurt you more than being above avg for everything, but not maxing anything.
