...to my son! We are all very excited! He also got an appointment to USAFA as of Wednesday and was awarded a full NROTC scholarship last month and he was acceoted to Georgia Tech and is a seminfinalist for their Presidential scholarship. He feels so good that all his hard work in high school is being recognized and my younger son (a sophomore who is very smart but does not always apply himself as he should:rolleyes:) is beginning to think maybe he needs to shape up and apply himself now too!

WooHoo! Congratulations to you and your son! Probably the toughest ROTC scholarship to land is an AFROTC Type 1. You have very good reason to be proud. :thumb:
Did you get a letter, a phone call or did the status change on the AFROTC scholarship site?

Thanks for the information. Have you checked the website to see if your status has changed? I'm surprised the snail mail got to you before the site changed (if it hasn't).

Congrats again to you and your son. What is his major area of study going to be at college?

He plans to major in Engineering (Environmental) with poss minor in Civil Engineering. Besides Georgia Tech, he's applied to Southern Cal (my alma mater - Class of '76; my husband is USAFA '78), NC State and Miami (FL). Miami wants him to run cross country and track; the Coach said they'd pay for his room/board since they fully expected him to get AFROTC and prob a merit scholarship there. (Of course he won't hear if he's been accepted at Miami, NC State or Southern Cal till Feb). He's planning on contacting the coaches at USAFA about running there now that he has an appt (he's already filled out the student/athlete questionnaire and has been registered with NCAA since junior year).

Nothing is on the website about the AFROTC scholarship. Just checked. We were not figuring on hearing anything about AFROTC until later this month, so this was a very nice surprise.:thumb:

Needless to say, my son has got some huge decisions to make in a few months.

I love a success story with a happy ending. Congrats again and thanks for looking on the site. Those of waiting for AFROTC decisions will have to camp out by the mail box.

Hope you and yours have a safe and Happy Holiday.

Congrats

Congratulations, that's awesome. You must be very proud.

My son's only in 9th grade, but we're starting some planning now for ROTC. I can't believe how competitive it is for both ROTC scholarships and to get in to more selective colleges.

Can I ask your recommendations on USC? How are their ROTC programs? They have a great engineering school. My family and I were stationed in LA for three years and my son was born there. We may go back there someday. Of course, USC tuition would be too steep for me without a scholarship.

Congrats again.

Finally!

Type 7 AFROTC!!!!

Finally I have somewhere to go!!!!

Penn State maybe?

Now to wait for the big envelope in March:thumb:....hopefully

AFROTC Type 7 Scholarship

Son also received a letter yesterday notifying him that he received a AFROTC type 7 scholarship. Congrats to all!!

Congrats to you and your son scdad!!!

Has anybody found out about an AFROTC scholarship from the online status site? We were unable to get mail today because of the snow storm.

mail only

aglages,

are you in the middle of a storm too?! our mail came early so I was lucky enough to find my envelope! then I had to shovel, so it was bittersweet

But my online status has not changed either, so mailbox camping is the way to go!

Congrats to all!!!

Not only in the middle of a storm but at the top of a hill on a dead end street. No mail today. Guess we'll have to wait until Monday. This week we have found that she was chosen for the AROTC scholarship, and according to DoDMEREB, a NROTC scholarship. I think we have enough good news to keep us warm for the weekend.

Congrats again carp28, and thanks for letting me know about your online status.

My son's story sounds much like uscgphibltcol76's! He got his Type 1 AFROTC scholarship in the mail today! :thumb:

Not quite as exciting as it would have been had he not found out on Thursday of his appointments to USAFA and USNA!

But still something to be excited about!

That is fantastic marciemi! Congrats to you and your son. I "assume" he is still waiting for a NROTC scholarship. Which direction is he leaning?:thumb:

No, actually he didn't apply NROTC, despite the number of times they called and tried to convince him. Right now I'd say he's about 90 percent USAFA, but is going out for a CVW next month to Navy to give it one more chance. Either of those is way ahead of ROTC, but of course when he did the application, he couldn't know yet about the appointments and couldn't count on that! :thumb:

Congrats again to you and your son. Sounds as though all his options are good ones. Have a safe and Happy Holiday.
