Hey everyone,

Back in April, I posted a thread on whether I should attend the Academy or do NROTC at UCLA. I received so much helpful feedback from the forum community. I ended up choosing USNA, which is the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. Plebe summer was tough but a blast. It’s been 4 weeks into the academic year and it is unreal. Thank you to everyone who gave me insightful advice and helped me with my decision. Go Navy, Beat Army!

The smiles I saw this past weekend on plebe faces were worth their weight in gold. Seeing them at the parade, at a packed fan filled noon formation on Friday… priceless. The upperclassmen even mentioned loving the crowd on Friday during noon formation. We were standing room only and happy to share the shade. . What a refreshing thing for the Brigade- he said noon formation will always be no fun but with this crowd? They loved it.
Being in DTA and seeing Plebes and uppers and those in between was heaven for this mom. My first trip out and it rang all of the bells and pulled at all of my heartstrings.
My 3/C is doing awesome and is very happy he endured and stuck out the crud of a Covid plebe summer and year. The grass in this case, is greener. And the opportunities abound. The sentiment of 9/11 is a gentle reminder of what our loved ones commit to. This was a beautiful trip that reminded me how grateful and proud I am.

Back in 2015 DD wanted Stanford, but didn't get an offer. I was teasing her about that during Christmas Break of her USNA 2C year (two team mates were at Stanford). Her response: "Dad, if I'd been accepted at Stanford, I might not be at the Academy...... I got lucky, real lucky".

I think you made a great choice AND a brave choice; good on you.

Classy move to swing by here to say "thanks"

You my friend have provided me sage advice and counsel and this weekend I reaped so many benefits from your traveler to do’s and not to do’s. I appreciate all of your sage counsel and will pay it forward.

And best of luck to your awesome daughter and her amazing new journey.

To have an opportunity such as this is UNMATCHED!!!! currently reapplying as we speak and know I’ll be joining you in the coming months!! I’ve learned our mindsets really are our only setbacks!! all the best

Always keep in mind that starting as an engineering major and doing ROTC would also be tough anywhere you went!

Not to mention that UCLA has a gazillion freshman temptations like nearby Santa Monica beach, the Sunset Strip, Melrose Ave, etc etc.

”Plebe Summer was tough but a blast.”

That’s what I’m talking about.
The beauty of Plebe Summer lies in the struggle. Putting out everyday with your shipmates starting at 5:00 AM is a total grind. But you learn to love it. #EmbraceTheSuck

I appreciate it. I honestly just felt it was my calling to go down this path of service. Plus, there is no place like the Academy. And of course I had to thank the community. You guys played a hand in me getting to this point.
