Since your average SA applicant is among the top of their class and school, they're obviously not just applying to the service academies.

I'm just wondering where everybody else here has applied to/been accepted to.

I just received a letter of acceptance from Colorado School of Mines today, pretty excited about the quality of education there but not about the cost ($20k a year out of state!). My dad went there, and I'm considering it as a backup school in case the AFA or USNA don't work out.

I've applied to UNLV, which I've heard has a pretty good engineering program (and it's pretty much be free for me to go there), have applied to ASU (just for kicks and giggles), and am almost finished with my USC application.

I am also right now sitting at my computer trying to finish my personal statement for USNA - it's the last thing I have to do now that I finally found my math teacher and got her to respond with her recommendation.

Applying to USMA and ROTC at Uconn... and that's it. I'd be astounded if I didn't get into a state school, so it's a pretty solid back-up plan. Though I may take a look at Dartmouth just incase I have some sort of change of heart after all these years. :)

Congrats on getting into your school and good luck with the academies!

#1 USNA
#2 Texas A&M ROTC
#3 University of Texas ROTC
#4 The Citadel ROTC
Good luck.

Accepted to:
1. USAFA
2. USNA
3. University of Minnesota (IT program) - Minneapolis/St. Paul

I'm also applying to the University of Wisconsin - Madison as an extra backup in case I get hurt before I-day.

1. USNA
2. Notre Dame
3. Elon University (accepted)
4. UNC Chapel Hill
5. Boston College
6. George Washington University
7. NC State (accepted-- backup)

As you can see I've been busy these last few months and I still have 3 applications plus one Honors Program app left to submit!! So much for having a Christmas break..

1. Colorado School of Mines
2. Colorado State Ft. Collins
3. Denver University
4. University of Colorado at Colorado Springs

Obviously they are all in state. Mines is my top pick because it is surprisingly similar to the academy. Many "academy" type kids are there because they were just barely passed over by a SA. The others are listed by how much I want to go there.

This is kind of off topic, but I was looking for anyone else in CO Springs that is applying to a SA. There are people applying from all over the USA, but I have yet to find someone from CO on this site . It is a lot easier to keep in shape and stay motivated when you have someone else by your side. Feel free to PM me to get in touch if you live in this general area.

Later,

Brian

1) USMA
2 USAFA (cancelled application once accepted to USMA but fully qualified with nom)
3) North Georgia (ROTC scholarship)
4) Embry Riddle (ROTC scholarship)
5) UCF (ROTC scholarship)
6) Auburn (ROTC scholarship)
7) NDSU (ROTC scholarship)

I only applied to the bottom 3 to see what a civilian college was like. I didn't really consider going to them but figured I would keep those doors open just in case.

Accepted to:
USMA
USCGA
USMMA
University of Pittsburgh

Also applied to ROTC programs at:
Boston University
Northwestern University
University of Virginia
George Washington University

Still hoping for appointment to AFA

So far for me-
USAFA (nom received) AFROTC (pending)
USNA (medical dq) NROTC (pending)
Georgia Tech (accepted)
Embry Riddle (accepted)
Virginia Tech (waiting)
Auburn (havent finished)
UCF (accepted, I live down the road)
Jacksonville University (accepted)
I thought the paperwork was a killer, but the waiting is much worse.

1. USAFA
2. USMA
3. AFROTC
4. AROTC
5. Texas A&M University
6. Oklahoma Baptist Universtiy

I've been accepted to 3 schools here in Kentucky and I think I'm going to go to one of them instead of a service academy (which was my original plan, but my mom talked me out of it. I'd like to think it's because she knows what's best for me)

1) USAFA (Nom. Recieved, waiting on appoint.)
2) University of Notre Dame (AFROTC)
3) Syracuse University
4) University of Nevada Reno (local school, backup for me)

Accepted to:
1. USAFA
2. USNA
3. University of Minnesota (IT program) - Minneapolis/St. Paul

I'm also applying to the University of Wisconsin - Madison as an extra backup in case I get hurt before I-day.

Hey Falcongirl - sounds like you're very similar to my son's plans. He has his appointment to Navy, and an LOA/Nom to AF, but also has acceptances to Univ. of Minn. (IT/Honors) and Wisconsin. Just curious if you're done any research into those schools as far as accepting and if they're willing to hold a slot for you even if you go to an academy. I know technically you can't say yes to two schools after May 1, but many report colleges were okay with them keeping them as a backup when attending a SA. We were going to wait it out a bit and then call both of those schools and see what their policy was. I don't mind if we lose a couple hundred dollar deposit to hold his spot until early August, but don't want to get him in trouble for doing so without telling the school. Just curious about your plans!

Let's see...

- USMA (LOA, medical waiver, double nom)
- USAFA (medical waiver, nom)
- USNA (nom)
- AROTC
- Princeton
- Stanford
- MIT
- University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign (accepted)

I would've been fine with just applying to the academies and U of I, but my parents (especially my mom) wanted me to have many different options.

Got an LOA to West Point...no appointment yet :frown:

Accepted to
1. University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
2. Penn State - University Park

Waiting on University of Illinois - UC

I was actually in the middle of applying to almost 10 different schools...when I got into U of M (first choice) I quit on everything else

1. USNA (nom)
2. USAFA (nom)
3. USCGA
4. USMMA (nom)
5. Maryland (NROTC or AFROTC)
6. Liberty ( AFROTC ) (accepted)

Lol, I have some apps due Jan 1 that I am just getting started on... Lord knows what my essays will look like

Here's mine....what it used to be....

1. USCGA
2. USNA
3. USMMA
4. Vanderbilt (NROTC)
5. UNC Chapel Hill (NROTC)
6. Auburn University (NROTC)
7. University of Miami
8. Washington University in St. Louis

The NROTC scholarship required three schools. While I would have only applied to Vanderbilt, had to do the other two.

As is probably obvious, I ended up getting my first choice, but I have to say that USNA and USMMA were both very attractive. I'm happy with the choice I made, no matter where you end up going, you will hopefully be able to say the same thing.

My DD has applied to these so far:

1. USAFA: 3 nominations
2. Embry-Riddle: AFROTC Scholarship
3. Norwich
and several state schools with AFROTC as back up.
