And so it begins, our first appointment in our USAFA Appointment List Class of 2026! I saw this in the USCGA thread and thought it would be a great idea for USAFA as I'm sure many have questions for those that are receiving appointments and whatnot.

So, any questions can be directed here instead of the official appointment thread so we can keep that for appointments only.

Congrats to all so far, and best of luck!

Won’t happen. For some reason people feel the need to congratulate every single appointment or ask their stats or ask their State etc. people can’t simply give the post a like and be done. An appointment thread that should go a few pages with a couple hundred appointments listed would be fantastic to click on and just see the new appointment but it won’t happen. I’d be happy if everyone proved me wrong this year though.

For that one person who has received an appointment this year, or generally anyone who has received an appointment to USAFA previously, how did you first find out--physical mail, portal update, call from your congressperson?

i just got an email saying my portal had been updated with correspondence so I checked and my appointment letter was in my portal inbox. I understand USAFA changed their applicant system this year however so I am not too sure what it will look like for you.

Awesome! Be sure to put yourself in the appointment thread!

I think he meant last year/some other year but I might be misreading it

DS received a phone call from congressman about nomination + LOA. It took a few weeks (and a Christmas break) for the portal to be updated with the appointment. BFE was sent much later...

This might sound like a silly question to most of you but what does congress/direct mean on an appointment.

It was in his portal, no email notification.

Congress is the nominating source (senator, VP, Presidential)

Direct means direct from high school. Other might say prep (meaning coming from prep school) or some may be coming from enlisted.

The “field” where Congressional is indicates the types of noms earned. “Direct” informally means direct from high school, not via prep school or college re-application.

It is a pet peeve of mine that house representative nominations are referred to as “congressional” when both the Senate and the House are part of congress. But maybe I understand it wrong

You don't understand it wrong, but it probably stems from the fact that senators are referred to as "Senator 'state your name"" and house members are referred to as "Congressman 'state your name'"

I use “elected official” here as a convenient lump-in.

That makes a little more sense. I'd still rather use "House" but I don't think literally anyone else cares :biglaugh:. Maybe if Dr House runs for Congress
