I received my LOA from West Point several months ago and received a letter from my congressman two weeks ago stating, "It is my pleasure to announce that you have received a nominatio" then later it said, "your nomination is classified as competitive." The nomination hasn't shown up on the USMA website yet. What does this mean? When sould I expect an appointment letter?

Well first off congrats! Now you just have to wait... I know its horrible! Although your congressman notified you about receiving a nomination, it can take awhile before they send notification up to WP admissions. My nomination showed up on my candidate page after 3 weeks or so! Since you have the LOA + nomination, you should expect to receive an appointment as soon as your nomination is updated! They are also on winter break at this time, delaying anything from being entered or reviewed until they return. I'm also playing the waiting game, but don't stress about when its coming, since you know you have it. It will come so enjoy your time now.

coffeecup is exactly right. I just checked my portal to get the dates right - I got an LOA in early November, got my nomination in early December, it showed up in my portal four days later, my appointment showed up in the portal like a week after that, and I got my folder in the mail like a week after that. So just take a deep breathe - you'll hear from them soon. And if you already have an LOA it doesn't matter if you get a principal nomination or just a competitive one, you're in (unless you're disqualified for some reason).

See you on R-Day

WestPointer14, I am in the same boat as you. Our appointments are coming, it is just a matter of waiting at this point.

Sadly, my nomination showed up just before they went on winter break! So while I should have heard from them quickly any other time, I have to wait until break is over! Well, my birthday is a few days after they return... maybe a birthday gift is coming?

Where does the appointment show up in the portal?

I can't recall who, but someone posted this in another thread. They said that the appointment date offered shows up under the box where your nomination is shown on the overview page if you scroll down. I can't confirm this since I haven't been offered an appointment as of now.

For Virginia, WP isn't notified of the congressional nominations until 15 Jan. I'm not sure if the same is true for every state though.
