CGAS Prep School

Hello All,
My daughter is currently at NAPS, Newport, RI. Please see the following link for a current NAPSTER - "ask -anything".
Also, see Service Academy Prep School Forum.
Congratulations on your appointments & good luck!

Hello,
Just wanted to make a thread for the people who got into CGAS (Prep School), very excited! I also would like to get to know my classmates or have anyone who has done CGAS explain more about it, and describe their experiences!
My daughter was accepted to CGAS this time last year and is currently at GMC. She says she's happy to assist with any questions about it so just let us know. Best of luck!

Hello! Very nice to meet you! Once more people respond I would like to maybe make a group chat so we can all get to talk!
That sounds great! In the meantime, I can PM you my contact info, if that’s alright with you (I would prefer not to post my personal info on the public forum lol). Congrats to you on your appointment to CGAS as well. So exciting!

You can PM when you have 5 posts, been a member for a week, and the system updates.

Did your daughter ever get asked if she had a preferred prep school? If so, when did they ask, and was GMC her preferred first choice? I know they will make the selection based on what they see fit in each applicant, but I would just like to know.

From DD:

After acceptance to CGAS, they asked about prep school preference but we were advised there were no guarantees. CGA hosted several online events for accepted CGAS students that were helpful. If your child is a recruited athlete, they may go to a specific school depending on the sport. I believe NAPS has basketball, track, football, and wrestling and maybe a few other sports. Most of the recruits end up at NAPS for those sports, though there are also a few at GMC. MMI is where they typically send swimmers and baseball players. They want you to play your sport if you can, although none of the schools had my sport. If they do ask about what school you would like to go to, I would encourage you to research the options and if you have preference they will want to know why. GMC was my second choice but that was only because I knew more about my first choice than the others. It has all worked out great and I have formed excellent bonds with my fellow CGAS shipmates. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Alright, this is good to know. Thank you!

Yes very good information! I assume if I was to play soccer, that would be considered more towards GMC??

My daughter is currently at gmc and played soccer in the fall. She was originally supposed to be in prep school at UMASS Boston but last minute was sent to gmc cause the program wasn't ready. Nonetheless, she's having a wonderful time and gaining lots of skills and making many friends.

Very glad to hear that and tell her I said congrats! My preference I feel is GMC but I will be good with whatever!

Here's a dumb question.

If you get selected to go to prep school is it 100% paid for by the federal government?

Also, if you don't get into the academy next year I assume the credits transfer to another school so you wouldn't repeat freshman year??
