I'm curently a hs sophmore and want to apply to USNA. I checked the academy website and see that basic requirements included being a US citizen with some footnotes underneath.
I was born in Taiwan but came to the US since I was one (I'm 15); my parents are applying for citizenship- we are currently permanent residents.

If one of my parents earn US citizenship before I turn 18, does that automatically allow me to become a US citizen?

How do I match up for admission based on these stats?

attend an IB/MYP school

4.7 gpa(weighted)

currently in AF rotc as an officer(went to leadership school)

Life scout(should earn Eagle within the next year); i have served as SPL, ASPL, OA Chapter chief, and PL

on my school's academic/quiz bowl team (7 year undefeated)

will take ACT soon

scored 111 on PSAT (taking into account that i did better on math in 8th grade-disappointing as i had some answer transfer issues)

What do u people whom have graduated from the academy think?

Your academics are fine just make sure you have higher test scores since you are only a sophomore.
It would be very helpful if you participate in a sport in your highschool or community.
Your leadership looks really good especially with Eagle close.

I believe you'll be pretty solid once you worked on what I said.

You look fine and remember there is no cookie cutter Midshipman!!!!! Keep up the good work!

I would suggest that you consult the Department of State.
Though I may be incorrect, I believe that YOU must have completed the citizenship process BEFORE I-Day.
There is a similar thread re: this same subject somewhere on this web site.

I am also a current sophomore but I can tell you:

academics-good (work on test scores, though)

leadership-excellent (already an officer in 2nd yr. and close to Eagle...that's pretty crazy good)

sports-lacking (if you played a sport before and stopped, take it up again...otherwise, find what interests you)

Also, other pieces of advice: for the CFA you will take when you apply...practice, practice, practice. Practice at least twice a week, set up short and long term goals for yourself, and take official practice CFAs (someone timing you, etc...the works)...for example, if an academy rep(s) is holding an official CFA, ask them if you can come and take it as a practice. This will prepare you for what it will really be like when you take it and they can be really helpful and give you tips to improve.

Practice being interviewed as you will have a nom and academy rep interview during the application process usually.

Get in contact with your local reps and congresspeople/Senators and display your interest. Also, let your teachers/club sponsors know of your aspirations, as well as your counselor so you stay on track.

Make a visit to an academy if you don't live too far away like me.

Do all of this and more, and you'll be a prime applicant to any academy or college for that matter.

i see that all of u recommended sports. will it be beneficial evn if i only did sports my junior and senior year? I probably won't be doing any sports this school year.

would running track seem to be among the most beneficial to help towards scoring well on the physical test?

as for the physical test
currently

I am able to do:
40-50 pushups (huge range bc im not sure all of them would actually count)
not real sure on situps but probably around 70 in 2 minutes
7-9 pullups
run around a 7 minutes mile (as of spring of 2009)

You didn't list them here, but sit-ups are also scored. Make sure you read the directions on what constitutes a rep of each exercise fully and understand it. You have no idea how many fleet sailors I've seen that end up cheating themselves on the push-ups and sit-ups in their PFA's by assuming a starting position that actually makes the exercise harder for themselves.

Yeah, this is my 3rd year running track and I am a junior. It would really help your file and your fitness. Track would probably be an easier sport to pickup as opposed to baseball or other spring sports.
