Got a letter from Navy stating I was scholastically qualified. I also passed DoDMERB, have a good CFA, and a nom. So I'm estimating that I have about a 75% chance of getting in. 'Bout right? Also, when do they make the bulk of their offers?

Ditto for my son,(NROTC). I agree with your statement mathmatically, but who really knows. Reading 2009 threads "April is a good month", final selection sounds tense.

I liken it to the lottery.
You've chosen the numbers, bought the ticket and now you wait to see if they draw your numbers.
Nerve wracking. Make the most of this final semester of your senior year. :thumb: Have fun, laugh a lot, spend time with friends and make memories to last a lifetime.
Have faith and if this is the path that's meant for you it shall be.

Personally, I'd recommend against reading that thread as it ends up being nearly completely depressing. :frown: Sounds like if you don't hear from Navy at least (other academies may differ) by the end of March, you're not going to get good news later.

I don't know about percentages, but I think you should get brownie points for being from Fredericksburg, TX, hometown of Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz! We saw the new wing of the Nimitz museum this Christmas, and WOW! I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the Navy or WWII. http://www.nimitz-museum.org/ BTW, Admiral Nimitz was admitted to USNA in 1901 at the age of 15. :thumb:

Oh right, that's great you came to our little museum in Fredericksburg. Did you see Bush Sr.? I missed it (outa town), but I have been many times before. Their live assault demos they give several times a year are awesome.
Flame throwers--machine guns--very cool!

My son also

My son is in the same boat with only difference is he received a medical waiver from USNA. We also would like to think the chances are 75% but doesn't seem it could be that good of a chance.

That's so NOT the case. There are MANY who are currently at a SA that didn't find out until late March or even early April.
You just have to keep the faith! If it's meant to be, it's meant to be and there is nothing that you can do to force the issue.
This is by far the most competitive admission's cycle in more than 10 years! Please do not rely on past years trends to forecast THIS year's offers. Each admission's cycle has it's own personality and stats.

Same Boat

My son is in the same boat. 3Q'd in October and got a nomination in early November.

Do local numbers affect the odds?

My son is also 3Q with a Nom, but I already know of 3 OA's from our Congressional District in San Diego-- two from my son's high school and one from a nearby private school. Is this where the "national pool" comes into play? And does it negatively impact my son's chances because our district is already pretty well represented? We're trying not to obsess about this, but....

You're right of course. And my point was just from reading that whole thread (which I'd recommend not doing  ), that was what I got out of it. Granted that the people on the thread probably don't accurately represent the whole class. And what happened last year may not reflect this (or any other year). However, reading 26 pages of a thread beginning on April first, with not ONE of them ending up with an appointment - makes me think that last year at least, if you didn't know by then, the odds were not in your favor.

Remember some people find out a few days before I day so hang in there everyone!!!
Go Navy!

Agreed, reading the thread was depressing and offers little useful information. It is like watching a reality show featuring anxious and disappointed people.

Hopefully we find out either way before end of April or early May. I try to tell myself and son, if USNA is meant to be, we will find out soon enough. I know this is the right thing to say, but in reality, difficult to do. If not USNA, his NROTC School is fantastic with a great tradition.

Trying not to obsess

I remember that thread (I've been a lurker here a very long time), and yes, it was very depressing to watch in real time. As someone above me posted, it was like a really sad reality TV show.

Just IMHO...last year, about 75% of those who were triple qualified with a nom got appointments. About 1600 out of about 2100. Applications to the academies are up 10-40% this year (not a precise number, but that's what they gave in the story I saw). If you are triple Q'd with a nom...I'd just rough estimate that 50% of those people will get appointments this year. At AFA, your odds would (again, all IMO) probably be even lower if you are not potential pilot qualified, since they have higher admissions standards for those people.

We also would like to think the chances are 75% but doesn't seem it could be that good of a chance.

It's pretty close.

Class of 2013
? 3Q + nom
1,667 appointments
? %

Class of 2012
2,196 3Q + nom
1,537 appointments
70%

Class of 2011
1,893 3Q + nom
1,419 appointments
75%

Class of 2010
1,888 3Q + nom
1,510 appointments
80%

USNA in waiting

Too much thought/energy going towards an uncontrollable outcome,,,,and I am as guilty as anyone.

Do those statistics include people coming from NAPS? I've seen a stat on here that said it was more like 62% get an appointment if you factor out NAPS, international students, etc.

I too was wondering how many of the appointments came from candidates that were not 3Q+Nom.

LOA+Nom?
NAPS?
Etc?

Or are all accepted candidates considered 3Q+Nom?

If you want a good thread... check out the one called USNA 2013... that'll really make you feel better (seems like a lot of activity happened in early February, not too far away!)

besides... what else do i have to do on a friday afternoon?

97 More days!!
