Today coming home from school, I was pulled over for going 15 over. Now, I know that immediately that sounds bad. However, the speed limit drops ten miles per hour, and I had just passed the sign. The distance between myself and the police officer was about 200 yards, and I just hadn't hit the brakes yet.

I was polite to the officer, and had my license and insurance out when he came to the window. He saw my USAF Bennie and canteen on the floor, which sparked up a discussion on the USAFA that lasted for the duration of the writing. Really nice guy, but still wrote me the citation, but did "Wish me luck" as he walked away. I think he meant it.

So, I called the Academy and have sent an E-mail to the Academy saying what happened and all of the details at the request of my counselor.

Will this hinder my chances of receiving an appointment? I'm not saying I wasn't in the wrong. I know I was. Just the circumstances. Ironically, I was thinking about the USAFA, and forgot to brake.

I've received one nomination from my senator and am extremely confident about a second one. My GPA is 3.96 and have good SATs. Is this one thing going to "shoot me down?"

Thanks.

I've seen this asked many times before, but always after the appointment, so I know for that, for one speeding ticket, it's been said in the past that it wouldn't get your appointment revoked (happening a second time makes it more likely).

However, I don't know about in this case, but personally I would think that your reporting it so promptly to them would have to work in your favor. :thumb:

Honestly getting a speeding ticket isn't a big deal at all. Don't worry about anything except dealing with your insurance cost going up haha

So, should I have even called the Academy in the first place? Now I'm concerned it could be the make-or-break factor to whether I get an appointment or not.

It won't, don't worry about it

Oh and its USAFA not the USAFA ;) had to say it

Alright, thanks. My counselor just wanted to know every detail about it, and how it will be resolved, so that worried me quite a bit.

Second note duly noted. Thanks guys!

One of my friends got arrested for riding the Public Transportation without a pass and a court hearing and stuff, but was alright for West Point, so I can't imagine this is a make or break thing.

yeah you're good, but don't ever get one after this coming june!
and especially never, ever on base.

I don't think you have too much to worry about, my son got one under almost identical circumstances last May, right after school, on Prom nite! His was on his USNA and USAFA apps. His USAFA councelor did send an email asking him to write a statement about what he learned from the incident. He hasn't heard from USAFA yet, but has an appointment to USNA.

Well, I received my appointment this past Friday, via Online Status page...I'm just waiting to receive the packet and get all of that paperwork done!!!

Thanks for the post guys...just need to finish up defensive driving.
