Appointee Kit Q&A

Do you need to submit a covid vaccination card in the pre-appointee kit before the appointee kit opens up? I’ve read conflicting things on this.
You are asked twice to submit records for immunization, once in the pre-appointee kit for coivd, and another in the appointee kit for your whole shot record.

i still have to get some more of the shots that are required like polio and a couple others. if i submit my current shot record and show up on i day with a new one, after those shots, would they accept that? or should i try and get all of those before submitting the shot record in the appointee kit?

@99Gold, when I click on the "I did not take a college chemistry course or I took a chemistry course at a preparatory school", the other two questions for grade and recency go away. Try and have your DS refresh the appointee kit, and if that doesn't work send me a PM.
I'll have him recheck today. His kit just opened yesterday afternoon (accepted Friday night) so could just need an update.

I just received Offer on portal.
How long will I receive the nice BFE certificate in mail ?
Do I have to click accept button first in order to receive BFE ?
Is the standard 10 days to accept? I have until 4/15.
So thrilled!
Thanks.

Thanks I am still clueless here.
Has anyone here received the BFE?
How long did it take after you accepted?
HI @DDHH2026 ,

This section is more for the Appointee Kit, which is set of tasks you must complete after you accept your appointment to USAFA. Those get issued by the Academy about once a day, but you have to accept the offer to get it.

Not sure about the BFE. I thought everything was online nowadays but getting that isn't required for actually going to the Academy in June. Maybe you will get something in the mail soon, I'll leave that to the other appointees.

If you are asking specifically for the Appointee Kit, I'd expect you will get the Pre-Appointee Kit containing the booklet and Covid Questionnaire tomorrow morning.

Hope this helps.

does anyone ever actually bring molded cleats on i-day??? bc i feel like they would be a waste of money for me to purchase.
The cadets I talked to at the Appointee day kind of shrugged and said most people don't really use them. I will probably get a cheap pair just to have in case, but if you want to save money, you're probably good without them.

On another note, I seem to get the feel that during BCT we will have about three and half thousand different worries, and money/finance will be right there toward the bottom. Considering that you are about to get a $400,000 education without any payment (with an additional salary!) there will probably be a few of us wishing we had spent the extra $20 for better undershirts or nicer boots or whatever it is. So, you might keep that in mind while preparing for BCT.

Does anyone know if there is a hard due date for the appointee kit? Obviously it is before I-day, but I cannot find anything in the appointee booklet saying when kit must be submitted by. I would like to wait as long as possible to take the math placement test as I still have another quarter of Calculus left.
Fair question. One admissions personnel told us at the appointee visit to try and get it done before this Friday. Not a hard due date, but a reasonable goal.

As far as the Calculus, that is a good idea, but you're probably not going to make a huge difference with that extra quarter of learning. Unless the class structure is really weird (I'm assuming you're probably in AP Calc), you will have already learned everything about single-variable differential Calculus that you need to know for the second placement test. Likely you are just doing basic integrals now through the end of the class, and that's probably not going to get you enough to validate Calc 2 (integral Calculus). So, my suggestion: do a good bit of review of not only this year of Calculus but also from trig and algebra. Just really nail those two tests and hope to get placed into Calc 2.

Also, not only for this question but for life: PAUL'S ONLINE MATH NOTES.
Best. Math review. On the internet.
Everything makes so much sense, and his instruction is saving my butt in multivariable right now. Paul is my hero.

Unless you have gotten the email from EverFi to complete the Dignity/Respect courses, you are not going to be able to submit your appointee kit. You have to click a box verifying you took the courses and read chapters 1-9 of the required reading material.

For the question about having your private pilot's license...
He is 90% complete, really just has to take written test, practice check ride and final check ride. He's planning to finish before I-day, but with baseball season, AP tests, and other graduation events, it might be early June before it's complete. If he marks "no" and submits the appointee kit before June, will that affect his ability to later participate in flying activities if he does in fact receive his ppl? Or is the question primarily for demographics of the incoming class?

I believe it is more for demographics/information as they state you need no prior experience to do any of the airmanship programs. PPL is not an advantage or disadvantage (to my knowledge). If someone knows more than me please inject.

Correct, it's in the Web Data Collect just so that the Academy can do a review and see how many people are interested in aviation before coming to the Academy, and how many are interested during, and after. Summer aviation programs at the Academy are primarily based on class rank your 4* year and also just a hint of luck.

Basically it's just demographics, as are almost everything in the Web Data Collect section of the Appointee Kit.

As far as I can tell, there are two advantages to the PPL:
1. Higher score on the pilot career selection criteria, which doesn't matter until senior year
2. Ability to join the competition flying team, and that doesn't matter until I think next Spring. You just have to have PPL by March or something.
3. Better chance of admission but that's obviously irrelevant now

Could be wrong here, but I think he should be ok to say he doesn't have it and should probably submit the Kit when possible. Also, in case you are not aware, there is an Aero club that is like a civilian flight school but on the USAFA campus. You have to pay for the hours, but if he really cannot finish before I-Day, then he could just join that club and pay for the last few hours sometime after BCT ends.

For the security clearance documents, there's a large number of questions that do not apply to me. Should every blank field have "N/A" or can the first field in each section just say it, not all of them?

Thanks I am still clueless here.

Last year they went out in bulk. It’s a nice to have momento that can be used for your graduation presentation but the appointment e-mail is what’s most important. 🙂
