My Story and Who I Am

Damn your a beast. Congratulations on all your appointments, hopefully you make the best choice :D

Hey, awesome article. Really impressive.
Congratulations on your appointments and everything you've accomplished. Eyes forward, keep doing what you do!

Awesome article,

Hopefully you don't get a little more attention come I-day.

I saw that too. Was waiting for someone to mention USCGA.

That is really impressive man, your hard work has really paid off.

Later,

Brian

Congratulations and kudos for being able to come back after such a rough start. Your grandparents are to be commended! Make sure you remember to honor them in some way at graduation. Nothing monetary, but perhaps a framed letter of appreciation? A dried rose for grandma? Something you make yourself?

I hope your parents realize what a great son they've raised.

"Hopefully you don't get a little more attention come I-day."

Congrats. Your family, and community should feel proud and your academic, athletic, and work experience should serve you well at the Academy. It's truly an exciting time filled with promise and optimism, and the recognition that your best days are yet to come.

That said, as I-day approaches, postings like this can draw some extra attention though this one read relatively benign compared to others (e.g. boasting about going to test pilot school and becoming an astronaut). Even worse is trash talking on Facebook. You always want to fly under the radar.

Enjoy the Spring. You have accomplished a lot and I thank you and all of your future classmates for your willingness to serve.

I'm sure the press took Mr. VanWinkle's quote incorrectly when he said "all three" as well.

Whoever "Mr Van Winkle" is, if he was quoted accurately he needs to be educated about the number of America's Military Academies as well.

Fair Warning

If you get accepted into USAFA, you have a lot to be proud of.

Yet...
You should be careful about how you display that pride! This article isn't too bad. Some reporters have taken appointee's statements out of context, with poor results for the appointee.

This: http://www.brownsvilleherald.com/news/academy-98120-air-riojas.html was noticed by several cadets at USAFA.

...later turned into this (note the first picture):http://news.cnet.com/8301-13772_3-10273555-52.html

Sure, you have reason to be proud, but don't think you're going to be the best of the best just because of what you did in high school. You need to remember that things like Eagle Scout, CAP, going to state in a sport, etc, are pretty normal at USAFA.

Humbleness is certainly important.

I don't think anyone wants to be "that cadet" on I-Day.

Yeah, I looked at both of those articles that was ridiculous. The Academy isn't just a stepping stone... It's a foundation for the rest of your life and career.

Quite a story. Very impressive performance in high school. This will garner much attention from upperclassmen, but everybody's going to get yelled at, so it doesn't even matter. I would, however, change that color in you signature box to that of your future classmate, ZommingFalcon.

To be a big fish again!

Good job! Remember that you will be joining thousands of other big fish. Some people have trouble getting used to that fact, many do not.

just curious how many upperclassman run BCT and how are they selected.

I have to admit watching the vids - it is not like having a 40 YO master or gunnery sgt in your face, but I imagine it is intimidating for the new cadets.

lou gosset jr (officer and gentleman), lee ermey(full metal jacket), clint eastwood (heartbreak ridge), sam elliot (when we were soldiers) and of course john wayne (sands of iwo jima) played some good ones. no disrepect intended, but it looked more like neidermeyer(animal house)
