Hi everyone,

I want to leave the actual details of this up to hornet, eagle, and any of the others that usually are involved, but I thought I would go ahead and mention the orientation dinners (for each date). I believe that it is usually the night before it starts (Sunday) at a restaurant of everyone's choosing. Are the current appointees still interested in attending something like this? I know that some people will be flying in that night and therefore would have a hard time attending. We don't need to make an official list or anything, just if anyone has thoughts or ideas feel free to post.

Later,

Brian

We're coming in to the first weekend and will actually be coming in Thursday and skiing first and meeting up with some other friends so definitely plan on attending wherever people are meeting up that first Sunday night (April 11)! :thumb:

My family and I would attend a dinner if something is set up. We hope to be up there by sunday afternoon.

I agree, a dinner would be great. I think my family is trying to book a morning/ early afternoon flight into Denver (cheaper than flying into COS), so we should be available by dinner time.

Do anyone know when the orientation is over?

Really whenever you want on Tuesday after lunch. You'll be with your cadet, so you can go to his/her afternoon classes, but if you need to leave early to catch a plane, there's no obligation to stay.

Yes, we would definately be interested in attending the dinner.
We are coming on the last scheduled dates of 26th & 27th but will be there early enough for the dinner.

Usually there is a dinner for each session. I wasn't able to go last year. I believe it was on Sunday.

Random side note: Eagle, I see you all the time now in Fairchild and Mitch's for some reason. One of these days I'm going to have to say hi. Saw you and Hornet talking in Mitch's the other day.

Dinner?

At this time, we plan on attending the first session. If dinner is arranged we, son and dad, would love to attend.

Don't miss the informal dinners on Sunday nights. My son and I went last year. On the dinner we attended, the appointees more or less sat together, as did the parents. The cadets who came were distributed between both groups. This gave the appointees and parents a chance to get to know their counterparts. The information from the cadets was really good. Hats off to 'Ramius,' who was at our table, and the rest of the cadets who take time out of their schedule to do this.

Good luck.

Hi all,

It looks like there is some good interest going around for the dinner. Since hornet is a senior and has been doing this for a couple years he is trying to pass it on to the next "generation" of cadets. If there are any cadets on here that would like to attend or help out that would be great. I am willing to make calls and get everything set up, but it is best when there are current cadets there to talk about their experiences and answer questions. I will probably be starting a sign up for each orientation the beginning of February and we can decide on a restaurant and time to meet.

Hi all,

I will go ahead and recommend some restaurants and you guys can pick one for each date. I can only list a few here, so if any of you have favorites in the Springs, feel free to mention them.

A few of the ones mentioned last year were:

-Olive Garden
-Famous Dave's BBQ
-Applebees
-PF Chang's
-T.G.I. Friday's
-Taste of Philly

These are just a few that are located near the South Gate of the Academy. Each group can pick the same or a different place and I will list them under the respective date.

Orientation Dinner April 12-13
Date: April 11th
Time: TBD
Place: TBD
Sign up Deadline: April 4th

Orientation Dinner April 19-20
Date: April 18th
Time: TBD
Place: TBD
Sign up Deadline: April 11th

Orientation Dinner April 26-27
Date: April 25th
Time: TBD
Place: TBD
Sign up Deadline: April 18th

I put the deadline on there just so that I can give the place we decide on a good estimate of how many people may be there. I need to be able to call them at least a week before to notify them that 50 people (about what it was last year) will be descending upon them.

Also, I think the meeting time for last year was 4:30 p.m. we can change that or make it the same. After we fill out the info above, I will start a formal sign up for each session.

One last thing. I know last year all 3 dinners were at Olive Garden. I really don't care where we meet or if all 3 are at the same place. The main goal is just to meet our future classmates, their parents, and some current cadets.

Thank you,

Brian

How about Taste of Philly? The food is awesome and very well priced. I have not been there in 12 years, but I remember it being really good.

Wow, I live here and have never heard of it. For those of you who are not familiar with the area it is about 6 miles south from the south gate. The only question that I can't seem to find an answer for on their site is if they have enough room for all of us.

Thanks,

Brian

Try the newer store, not the one on Nevada. I don't know if they have enough seating. On second thought, it may not be a good place for this type of event. You should try it anyway since you live there. The food is great.

Yes, that is the one on N Academy. Nevada would be way to far. I got to try that out, looks like a great place.

What were the dates for orientation again?
Are they April 12-13, 19-20 & 26-27?

Yes, I called AF yesterday and spoke to my son's counselor (for the first time!) to confirm the dates and make sure the flight times I was looking at would work. She said the signup would be on the online application as of Feb 1, and that there wouldn't be a limit to people coming to each session.

As far as location - I'm probably the most up for any nationwide chain restaurant (Olive Garden type) just because then I know what I'd order and don't have to lose time from socializing trying to decide! I thought there was also a Red Robin in the area that one of the groups last year used - we've always had good luck with them too.

Looking forward to meeting you all. I just booked the flights last night!
