Anyone looking at a Federal Academy, a Senior Military College, a Maritime Academy, or planning to apply for an ROTC Scholarship may want to consider summer leadership opportunities. Many of the military academies, colleges and universities offer summer camps and programs that can provide a number of benefits. First, it lets them know “who you are.” Second, it gives you an opportunity to meet others who are currently attending the institution and learn about their experiences. Third, the training is invaluable for those who wish to become leaders and serve their country. Fourth, it looks good on your application and resume’. Finally, it answers that question of “fit.” Is this really what I want?

My daughter, a rising junior last summer, attended Norwich University's Future Leader Camp. Right now she's working on her application to be an AI there this summer. I would most definitely recommend FLC for anyone looking into SMA/SMC life in general and Norwich in particular, especially if they can do it in the summer before junior year. You will be pushed, and you will learn a great deal about yourself.

Morgan C...

Submit an application and write me a letter requesting consideration for a scholarship. Let me know why you want to attend...and please include a resume'! As a non-profit organization...I have to be careful with scholarships...but will do what I can to help!

PS - Don't worry about the application fee for now.

My next door neighbor is enroute to Norwich next August- went to the Future Leader Camp last summer and really got a lot out of it. I've talked with her several times and I am certain that she (someone who has zero experience with the military) gained a tremendous amount from going there for those 2 weeks (and her mom did as well- she started off worried about what terrors were out there for her baby- but came home and all was well even without daily phone contact with her "little girl"). She will be in the Norwich Corps starting in August and is seriously looking forward to Rook year. BTW- she also got a pretty sizable chunk of scholarship money from Norwich as well. I know that her experience and recommendation would be :thumb:

Ha ha. Can't have Verizon Wireless as your service up in Northfield. We learned that straightaway.

Tucker92 makes a great point! We have an AT&T tower on campus, but Verizon is tough. There are a few places you can get signals. If see a student standing in the middle of a parking lot...with one foot on the ground...and another waving in the air trying to catch a signal...that's probably a good spot!

2012Cadet...The price can be a little scary. However, compared to other camps across the nation...for the price...you get a lot. You can submit an application and write a letter requesting assistance. But as I mentioned above...we are a non-profit...so we are not looking to make money on the program...just pay the bills. Half of the price covers just food and room. The rest is used to cover bus travel to training sites, salaries for Instructors, the Paintball Company, the Rock Climbing Club in Rutland, and more. If you start saving now...you might surprise yourself! Also...ask your school if they have any funds available for Leadership Programs. The AFJROTC Commander at Rome Free Academy in NY...sends 10 of his cadets every year. The local business organization pays half the cost for each of the cadets. Best wishes...and if you have any questions...give us a call at (802) 485-2531.
