Plan b college is angry

You all are wonderful, thank you.

LongAgoPlebe, I agree, the deposit was insurance and I never expected it back.

In the end the director is angry about the acceptance of academy appointment while depositing at the same time. His argument is that it denied a spot to another. He even called the high school. He sent my son a harsh email and said the matter is closed. The whole thing just shook me up, as the tone was so vindictive.
IMO:

Call back, tell them that under most circumstances you understand that deposits are non-refundable. However, there is NO way you (or them for that matter) would be able to anticipate that your child would be one of the limited few to be selected and appointed to WP and how proud you (and the school your talking to) should be that he/she was selected. Also how much of a compliment it is to the school that ONLY such an appointment and the opportunity to serve this great Country would have changed their mind about attending the university in this discussion. (It’s OK to lay it on thick here; my Mom is a guilt-trip travel agent so I learned from the best!).

Be polite and ask for the deposit back. If they refuse, don’t hesitate to mention this situation and the University by name in all future discussions (including here)

While the loss of deposit may have been expected, it’s not right. It’s not like your child chose a different college, this is an SA!

That post is from 2016, and I expect they are long gone and the issue resolved one way or another. Zombie post walking!

Good advice though. This issue usually pops up annually late in the cycle as various due dates approach and SA appointments are still hanging.

And welcome new member of just a few days!

Sooo sorry, I didn’t catch that!

Feel free to delete…please

Just enjoy you brought an educational thread back to life - it will be all new to the next cycle, and there is always something to be learned. Own it as a public service!

I disagree. It is right to not get your deposit back if you pay the deposit then decide to not attend. It's still a great deal!
