Roller coaster I: Get Us (The Parents) Through Plebe Year - Class of ‘26 🎢

My MID sent me a picture of the workout aftermath this morning after company leadership caught wind of there being some disrespect being shown to the Youngsters by the Plebes. He said that probably won't happen again (he wasn't involved in any of the disrespect saying "didn't they learn anything over plebe summer". ) I was wondering though if there is generally a window in the early Fall where some Plebes start getting outside their lane and find the road a bit rougher out there.

There probably wasn’t an event or series of events where Plebes were being overtly or intentionally disrespectful to the 3/C. What most likely happened was training staff noticed a trend of people dropping their professionalism when interacting with the 3/C. 3/Cs are mentors and they are supposed to be friendly faces, but they aren’t your friends. They still rate upper class customs and courtesies.

Course corrections are a part of plebe year, especially early on. It happens with every plebe class. They get tired of all the plebe stuff, so some will inevitably try and see how much they can get away with.

I definitely remember some beat down morning workouts to correct deficiencies.

Yes this is exactly what my son said. Unprofessional interactions and failure to follow orders.

There are all types at USNA -- some stay well within the lines the whole 4 years, some stretch and play in the gray area, and some say to hell with it and do whatever they want. I was the first type (largely because I had limited opportunities to see GF/Fiance/now DW) , but had company and classmates across that entire spectrum. It really doesn't take long after Plebe Summer (or even during it, but opportunities are limited) for those so inclined to start inching toward or blasting through the lines.

Everybody has their path ... and interestingly, history has shown that many of those who didn't follow the rules have gone on to successful Navy careers.

I asked if this happened in my youngster's co., he said their plebes got dropped / beat down many times already . I told him it's been only a week of school. He said, "so".🦗🦗🦗
Parents may get a lot of crickets 🦗. It’s not for us to know. This is their journey. Their Navy. As they are reminded frequently and often and loudly. They are being developed into leading others. And having their own private experiences with their people is part of that. So, crickets 🦗.

I remember asking something once, and got a firm “noneya”…that was a big ‘ah-haaaa’ moment for me!!

I actually know of one parent, who got their Mid into hot water with all their “oversharing” of info/gouge. The Mid shared, and so did the parent. However well intentioned or meaning.

Honestly, I sometimes physically cringe at what I read. Especially on parent pages, where identification is soooooo easy.

I was a perfect Mid! Never a demerit. Oh wait, just kidding. I had my share of demerits, adjudications, tours, etc. The basketball team was known for following all the rules 😂 I actually I was a decent Mid. I found the gray and totally threw out the window the rules on a few occasions and paid the price. But, I had fun! The Supt even asked me if I had fun during one of my visits with him. He laughed when said ‘absolutely’.

As the famous philosopher William Joel, from Hicksville, Long Island said, "I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints. The sinners are much more fun."

I've posted before that my team captain/Ensign roommate/BestMan was Class A'd twice as a mid and as a Flag Officer (!) ended up briefing two officers who had been part of adjudicating his offenses as a mid.
I truly wish I could have been a fly on the wall of the room when that was going on.

Gonna be blunt here, there is zero need for a parent to read Mid Regs. This is for your DS/DD to figure out and then provide feedback for a visit. They have 3/C mentors who are there to train and educate them on things like this. Not trying to be harsh, but even with Mid Regs, each kid has their own nuances with schedules, watch, practice, etc. Do not go off of any info from some Facebook page.
Rather do a Google search for midregs and read the info there (or any other USNA article) than ask facebook for the 100th time if liberty allows 150 miles radius and get a bunch of wrong answers.
Already last week there were posts of “my plebe said there’s overnight liberty for Labor Day”. I love to know where do they get that info with so much anticipation. Any ideas? Please share.

Two and two makes five. Overhear upper class talking about overnight liberty for them, upperclass. Skips the whole bit about researching MidRegs or asking the chain of command, arrives at 5.

Or 1 plebe gets an overnight approved because of extenuating family circumstances, such as grandmother who raised him is now in hospice. That part gets truncated, and it becomes “plebes have overnight liberty.”

The Hall is a gigantic rumor mill, forever churning.

Or they could have overnight liberty. You never know what leadership twist will get put on a departure from the norm.

Brought the dude home to hang out on Saturday from 1330 - 2245 with his town liberty. Gate 1 was closed when we got back, so he had to go in the turnstile and walk back to mother B. But he is close to the gate, and had time, so no issues.

First ProKnow in the books as well! This one was Mid Regs. Passed with a decent grade.

He says each individual thing is not bad (classes, ProKnow, ECA, PT, etc.), but it is the combination of things that makes it difficult. Balancing all the work, and knowing that something is going to have to suffer at some different time. He's probably going to take his 1 overnight that is given to the Plebes this semester for this coming weekend since it is a long one, and he gets to sleep over two nights and it only counts as one. Going to stay with his girlfriend at her school (it is still within the chapel dome radius allowed, just like our place).

So far, so good!
If he takes 1 overnight how he gets to sleep over two nights

What we are doing is getting an AIRBNB nearby, our DD can come and go at her leisure and when allowed. We have low expectations, we may get to dine together we may get an overnight or we may get watch 😞 ! We are just happy to watch the football opener in person for the first time and to give her a hug and say hi!

If a Plebe, or any Mid, has watch this weekend they should know. If Plebes are authorized 1 overnight a semester then they can determine when to take it. Upper class have more weekends. Even with a football game, many will opt to take a weekend regardless as there is an extra day of liberty. Saturday liberty, unless on watch or restriction, will commence at the end of the football game. Sunday would be like a normal Saturday liberty since it’s a holiday. Monday would be like a Sunday since it’s a holiday. Plebes normally don’t rate Sunday liberty unless on a weekend or special approval. Maybe the Mids win on Saturday and they grant a weekend or special liberty, no one knows. Although, Mid Regs will spell out these details, your Mid will know them. As far as using their weekend, that is up to them.
