Hey! So today I received a letter daying that I'm 3'qd and I'm on the national waiting list. Is this a good thing? How many candidates usually get appointed from the national waiting list? Thanks.

From my MALO Conference Briefing Slides:

Class is composed of approximately 1,300 cadets

Congressional and Service Connected account for 841 (+/-)

Under Title X, U.S. Code we must admit 150 cadets from the National Waiting List, by WCS, as “Qualified Alternates.” (Must have Congressional type nomination)

Authorized to select cadets without regard to WCS from the NWL to fill the class as “Additional Appointees.” Must maintain a ratio of 3:1 for Congressional to Service-Connected nominations.

Meaning a minimum of 150 off the NWL, in Whole Candidate Score order. After that, they can pick and choose from that list to fill the class in areas they feel it's lacking in (right handed tennis players, blond cheerleaders, Russian-speakers, etc.! ). Good luck!

Yes this is a good thing. What it means is that on your nomination slate, the person offered admission accepted their appointment, either the principal nominee or the highest whole candidate score nominee, so you are now competing for an appointment on the NWL (I am pretty sure thats how it works). This is good still, but I would continue to update your application to improve and hopefully make you even more competitive. Best of Luck!!!
