Well, that was quick! :thumb: We'd heard that selections were starting this morning and my son just got his acceptance email a few minutes ago!

Anyone else?!

Edited to add - Wow, only 2 weeks to accept or decline? He was really hoping to apply for and hear from NASS first (which most likely won't be until March) since that was his first choice of SS. It says if you don't accept by 2/15 your slot "may" be given to another candidate. Hm, what to do?

I just got my acceptance email too!! That was a quick turn around considering the acceptance board is going to convene today. Can't wait for this summer!! :shake:

Yay, congrats to you both! Son's GF applied, but she hasn't checked her status since early last week, I'll have to tell her to check it out!

I don't think they are the same week. Go to BOTH if you're fortunate to get the opportunity. If cost is a problem, then you have to decide to definitely go to air force or "Possibly" go to navy. The way I see it; chances are that you were going to take trips to visit traditional colleges if you were interested in going to a school out of state. So there's no difference here. I'd scrape up the money to go to both if possible. And if you look on the bright side; assuming you receive an appointment and attend one of the academies, mom/dad will be saving a lot of money that you probably would have spent for son/daughter to go to a traditional college. good luck. mike....

Congratulations, will have my son check when he gets home from school. You said you received an email, did your status change? If so to what?

Mike - my older son did Army, Navy and AF's last summer, so we know they are great opportunities. However, middle son is also hoping to do Boys State and a Language Immersion camp and there's no way he can juggle more than those three. Since he'll be out at AF for Parents' Weekend for nearly a week visiting his older brother in Sept, we were hoping for NASS instead, to give him a chance to see both.

Congratulations, will have my son check when he gets home from school. You said you received an email, did your status change? If so to what?
My son's status changed to "Offered" and below it is the area to accept whichever week you want, or to decline.

Incidentally, older son's page now shows the orientation registration info as well! Guess there are lots of updates this morning! :thumb:

Edited to add that it looks like people are accepting - when I first looked at it 2 of the 3 sessions were at 295 openings remaining. Now two are down to 289 and one at 291 so a lot of emails must have gone out!

So for those who are receiving acceptances, when did you apply?

It looked like the ticker started at 295 this morning. Thought online it said 350 in the information section, but they may hold some slots just for flexibility.

Now it's at 290 for sessions 1 and 2 and 282 for session 3. Bet when people get home from school this afternoon or evening, those numbers will change quickly!

My son applied last week of December once he had his ACT scores back.

That's when my son applied also, but so far no news. His ALO said his application looked good, so hopefully more acceptances are still coming.

Yea I'm in the same boat. My ALO told me my application was strong, but I haven't heard anything yet.

I really think that varies by region/ALO. Neither of my kids had any contact with their ALO before Summer Seminar. Last summer my son sent him email updates once he had his acceptance to SS and the ALO's name, but really never met him or interviewed with him until late August for the actual application. I've seen others though say that their ALO interviewed them as a part of the SS process.

If one hasn't heard about acceptance yet, how worried should they be?

I applied 12/7 and my status still says "under consideration." I haven't recieved an email either.

I believe the deadline to apply is something like March 17th. Could have been February 17th; been a LONG time ago and I can't remember. Anyway; my son applied for summer seminar like 3 days prior to the cutoff and was notified a week later that he got a slot to air force summer seminar. So it all depends on the individual applying. good luck. mike....

My son wanted me to keep an eye on his email/web application while he was at school. No news yet.

He is very interested in the USAFA, and it's the least likely for us to be able to visit this summer otherwise due to distance. So hopefully we'll see some good news before the slots fill up.

Since I'm a computer guy, I keep wondering how they are sorting through thousands of applications.... manually, some electronic filtering to triage. Or work geographically, etc. Lot's of work no matter what. Given the number of applications it may take a while.

We're mailing the paperwork for USMA SLS today, so he'll get to have at least one neat experience no matter what. But he'd really like to evaluate USAFA as well, thus the excitement.

Just got home from school and found out that I am accepted!! I'm so excited!!

I submitted my application on 2 December 2009 and received my acceptance email this morning. I can't wait!

I got my email today as well and I just signed up for session "C" (June 14-18). Anyone else going to that session?

I signed up for Session "A" (June 2-6) to avoid any possible conflicts with Buckeye Boys' State.
