2027 State Nominations Thread

Congratulations!

Thought everyone would enjoy seeing this bit of history...

DD's BGO shared with her how he was notified of his MOC's Nomination back in the 'post-smoke signal' ages.

Pretty cool!

DS received notification this evening of nominations to USNA and USAFA. HAPPY THANKSGIVING in our house! He now has a complete file at USNA….let the waiting begin! ⏱(And hopefully this provides the proper motivation to complete the USAFA application) 😂
This time last year my son received nominations and it included West Point (and he was no where close to finishing that application.) I made him finish, and it was the first appointment to come through. Finish it up- you just never know! (He ended up at USAFA, but would have happily attended either.)

My DS (USAFA or USNA Hopeful) has a green check mark in his USAFA portal. Senator "Our state" 81 nomination received. We are not in district 81, neither of our senators are ranked #81. In fact the number 81 does not match anything about us or our district.

Any guesses what the number is? He has not heard from either of them (interviewed with one of them). So trying not to get attached to the green check mark worried that it was put in his portal by mistake.

Does anyone have any similar stories?

My guess would be it’s a possible typo, and maybe it should’ve said senator 1. Is the senator that he interviewed with the longer serving senator?

Actually no he is the Jr. This is my son's second year applying, he didn't interview with the Sr Senator last year at all, and has not heard from him this year, we assume he doesn't do interviews. He received a nom from the Jr. Senator last year and felt good about the interview this year. So, all of that being said, he is guessing it is from the same Senator that nominated him last year. But the 81 is throwing him.

Thank you for your response! That was a good guess I hadn't thought of.
Still really trying to not get attached to that little green check mark until confirmation is received. LOL

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Bummer! I was hoping it was an easy explain typo. Hopefully he gets an email or call soon! The waiting is the worst part. Good luck to your son!

Has anyone received notification of nomination from Rep Davidson (OH District 8)? Just curious, as DS was told nomination decisions would be made in November. Crossing our fingers!

Hey, my application has been completed for quite some time now and I have recently received two nominations. I have my third interview next week. However, for one of my nominations I have two check marked bullets titled my congressional districts nomination. My nomination from my senator does no show double in the portal, only one. I was wondering if this meant anything? Also, I was curious as to whether if my application is updated with a new nomination, will it be reviewed again by the admissions office? Or is it a one-time-review? How does that process work?

Thank y’all!

Once your application is complete and you are found “academically qualified” and physically qualified (CFA), and you have a nomination, it goes into the “pools” either for selection in the slates of nominees from the pools of you nominating sources or the National Waitlist pool. If you are determined to be the top candidate / winner of your slate or pulled from the pool of national waitlist winners, and you are medically qualified (DODMERB) then you are generally offered an appointment. Just having your application completed, medically qualified, and a nomination in place does not mean that you will know quickly if you have an offer of appointment. It may be late Spring before most are cleared from the waitlist or others found not to be medically qualified, that might move someone up on their nominating source’s slate. Patience and alternative plans are the best way to prepare.

Alright, thank you so much. I’ll hang tight then.

When DS went to his MOC interview, the panel told him that they limit their nominations. As in they would only give out four or six noms, not ten for each academy. Any ideas as to why noms would be limited in a competitive city/district?
