Based on the last three years.....this is right around the time that candidates start hearing about their nominations from New Jersey Senators Lautenberg and Menendez.........still radio silence or has anyone received a communication?

No News?

Haven't heard anything from either. Hopefully we'll get some good news soon.

Nothing here either. A rep from our congressman (Lobiondo) told my D that the letters for our congressional district are going out today.

D just got a letter

My daughter just received a nomination from Congressman. Payne.:jump1::jump1::jump1:

D got a letter in the mail from Congressman LoBiondo congratulating her on her US Naval Academy nomination from Senator Lautenberg. Nothing from Lautenberg yet but the celebration has begun!:jump1:

Anyone hear anything??

Anyone get a call or letter from Menendez today??

Son opened his portal this morning and found a new nomination (already had one from Congressman Garrett NJ 05) - this one is coded NJ61.

Still trying to figure out who this is but he had no mail or phone call regarding this nomination from either Menendez or Lautenberg.

If anyone can help, please let me know.

Many thanks and good luck to everyone waiting!

Senate nomination

Congrats on the second nomination ! Which Academy did he apply to?
I have no idea what NJ61 means...it seems plausible that it would be one fo the senators. Hopefully they sent out the letters on friday...

Thanks Bluskies!

He applied to MOCs for USMA only.

If you're waiting good luck to you. FYI, I was looking at last year's thread regarding the NJ senators.....it seems they may have done a SA per day. You may wish to look it over as well. It's dated Feb. 09.

Okay, I just looked through all the MALO stuff for WP to figure out the coding - this is obviously for WP, but I think there would be similar codes for each of them.

In our state there are 8 districts. For someone receiving a congressman's nomination, the coding would be the state, followed by the first two digits of the district, followed by the slot (of the 5 that the congressman has that they are competing for). So if you were in district one, yours could say WI013 or WI015. I found both of those from the class of 2014 so that congressman must have two slots available this year (#'s 3 and 5, out of the total 5 that he can have there at one time). This may show up differently on the actual candidates website as just the WI01 (since you don't really care what slot it is), or it may differ by academy.

The senators in our state both start with 6 though. One senator's nominations come up as WI61 and the other WI62 - again followed by which slot of theirs it is that's vacant - for this year, evidently WI623 and WI612. But again, you may only see the first two digits, so for your state it would be NJ61 or NJ62, depending on which senator it is.

But yes, it sounds like a senator nom! Congrats! Hope this helps some!

My son applied for a nomination for the USAFA to his Congressman, Frelinghuysen, and to both Senators Lautenberg and Menendez. He received his nomination from Frelinghuysen in Mid December so we are very happy about that. Unfortunately, Frelinghuysen only has 1 slot for USAFA this year and there was at least one kid with an LOA for USAFA that also got a nomination from him. My son does not have an LOA. My understanding is that this would put my son into the "pool" of nominees. Also, after speaking with the Academy admissions they mentioned he is always better off with having more nominations. So...we wait.

An interesting point, we saw his nomination on the USAFA portal one week prior to the letter arriving from Frelinghuysen...

Marciemi - thanks for responding and yes, it seems it must be a Senator's nom. You've been a great source of info for me over the weeks and I want you to know that it is very much appreciated. Keep up the good advice!

Blueskies - OK well your son had the same thing happen with the nom.- on the portal before a call or letter. Don't know much about the process but I am sure a nom. is coming for him for AF or they will surely find one.

Wishing you and your son the best and please post when you know something!

Good luck.

NJ Senate Nominations

Nothing in today's mail from the senators. No change in the Academy status website either.

I have a feeling that the Senators did nominate one SA at a time and everyone will hear something next couple of days. I know that the crisis in Haiti has slowed down day to day work at the MOC's offices.

Keep the faith, the saying is true about all good things coming to those that wait.

Also, my son got nothing via mail or phone today either. Perhaps WP has the nominations list and wanted to get their portals up to date.

Easy for me to say..... but hang in there and let us know asap.

Ditto nothing in the mail today 2/1/10 either and no call......waiting for a USNA Nom.....

Nothing in the mail or phone from Lautenberg or Menendez today 2/2/10 for the USNA......anyone else hear anything?

Question: Since Menendez and Lautenberg did the interviews together, does that mean that they are insuring that they do not duplicate nominations? In other words, it is not possible to get nominated by both. Is this a correct statement?

Since our Congressman (LoBiondo) coordinated with the Senators to ensure no duplication, I would assume that the Senators are coordinating with themselves, so your statement is correct.

We have heard nothing from Senator Lautenberg, who (according to our Congressman) gave my D a nom.

I wonder if the MOCs who released nominations earlier coordinated with the Senators.

More info...

- No mail or call so far from the senators today.
- So I called both senator's offices.
- Left message on vm for Lautenberg's SA rep. Waiting for call back.
- Spoke to Menendez SA rep and he gave me some good info.
- Both Menendez and Lautenberg send all nominations to Academy on "competitive" basis, NOT "principle" basis as do more then 70% of MoCs. So no ranking of candidates by the senators.
- The senators work to "try" not to duplicate and nominate the same candidates but it does happen rarely. So, I would say expect at least one rejection.
- Menendez was unsure about Lautenberg's process but Menendez's office does NOT send out a letter notifying a candidate if they get a nomination or not. He calls the candidate directly if he/she gets a nomination, otherwise he said you should call the office to find out in a few days.
- All calls will be completed this week by friday by the senator. Probably next day or so.

I forgot to ask if they coordinate with the the congressman but I got the sense that they don't.

Friendly guy and was very helpful. Hope this helps.
