Anybody w/ Univ of Portland knowledge?

The University of Portland is one of the schools on my daughters ROTC scholarship awards list. To be honest, we had never heard of it until they sent us an unsolicated informational letter way back in the process. They immediately caught MY attention with the offer to pay for housing for ROTC students. We did as much research as possible thru the internet and really liked what we saw. However, being such a small school (3500 students), there isn't alot of alumni posting stuff all over the internet.

She goes for a campus visit next week but I'd like to hear what others have to say....thanks for any input you can provide. :thumb:
 
I know a little about U of P (as we call it out here). It's a small Catholic college that's run by the Holy Cross order (same as Notre Dame). I know several kids who have attended for engineering, nursing, and other majors and they have been very happy with their experience. My son had his AFROTC interview at the U of P detachment so I toured their new engineering building which is nice but relatively small. When we visited, the AFROTC officers told us that the university gives automatic room and board scholarships to ROTC students which is worth quite a bit of money. The campus is quite nice and seems very safe. They are in the West Coast Conference for sports so they don't have a football team but they play with Gonzaga, University of San Francisco, etc. in the other sports. They have top 5 soccer teams for both men and women. My daughter was recruited for basketball by U of P and was seriously considering it but chose Gonzaga instead. I think their variety of majors is limited because of their size but if they have what you want, I think you would get a solid education.

Thanks, I appreciate your input. Luckily, they have a very good nursing program which is my daughters major. Don't get me wrong, I don't think she can possibly go wrong by choosing Portland over her other options (NAU and Michigan). I think Portland fits my daughters personality and the smaller class sizes will suit her well (I think).

I'm hoping to find some input from alumni or maybe parents of alumni who can tell me what they liked, what they didn't like and anything in between.
 
Regarding the nursing program, it is very good. I've worked with a guy for 25 years whose daughter completed their nursing program and she enjoyed it very much. She's now working on her nurse practitioner degree at U of W. I've also heard that their program is pretty selective so that tells me it's pretty good as well. Hope that helps.
 
Yeah, when she got accepted, the PMS said that she was only the 4th applicant to be accepted into the nursing program. That was the week before Christmas. I don't know how many they take per year.

I know Michigan accepts 125 nursing students per year. They have already given out 115 so far with their rolling admissions process.
