I am graduating highschool class of 24 and want to apply to West Point. However, I was wondering, do I have to contact my interview person or will they contact me when my application is completed to the best of my ability?

They will contact you.
Also please realize that right now the Field Force Reps are focused on the new class...so you may not be very interesting to them until May/June and onward.
If you are attending SLE, you won't need to schedule another interview.
Best wishes. The most important thing is to head into your summer vacation with the names of the teachers who will write your recommendation letters/which is more of an online form. (Because you can work on a lot of the packet prior to the start of school for your senior year).

for me I had contacted and schedule it because I wanted to get done with it but they will eventually reach out

DS got an interview during SLE but his Field Force Reps reached out and conducted another interview at the end of summer break.

If you are competitive and after you have completed a good portion of your application, your FFR will reach out to you to schedule the interview. They typically will not schedule until you have shown that you are serious about your application. They are all volunteers and want to invest their time wisely.

Why did he need another after SLE, if you don’t mind me asking? I did one there and didn’t need to do another.

My DS did a one-on-one with the RC while visiting USMA in September but found out he still needed an interview with Field Force. We thought the admissions language was one or the other, but I think protocol calls for a field force interview to be recorded in admissions files for the committee to evaluate. The interview is part of the WCS, if I understand correctly. And, like others have stated, the Field force rep. will reach out at some point but both of my sons were proactive in reaching out to schedule interviews.

Be prepared for the FFR interview to come at anytime during the process. My DS did his initial candidate screening on 2/3 last year. His FFR reached out within a few days and his interview was conducted on 2/10. He did interview again at SLE. I just simply think that interview is part of SLE schedule that every CC completes regardless if they have already done it. His FFR has been his biggest supporter. I obviously have no idea of how the process works, but I feel like his FFR was instrumental in his SLE acceptance and receiving an early appointment. I will also add his BGO and ALO interviews were much later in the process.

From my DS' experience, who's now a plebe, the FFR reached out to him early in the process after SLE summer and encouraged DS to complete his file as soon as possible. The FFR said he got informed when the application was opened. He emailed and introduced himself and said he can explain the process and assist if needed. Also, he mentioned that USMA sends out an interview request for competitive candidates and that's another way the FFR knows that they have to contact the candidate.

From what we were told SLE performance does not count in the actual application, to be fair to others who didn't get into SLE. DS was interviewed there by cadre (squad leader) but he was still interviewed by actual FFR.

DS, now a yuk at WP, got a late nomination (last 10 days of January) from a senator to add to his JROTC nomination. He had never been contacted by a FFR, so he had to initiate the contact and request the interview before January 31. He got his interview and DS received his appointment in late February. I was a little fuzzy about the interview requirement given the lack of contact by the FFR. That said if you have a nomination you may need to be proactive about the interview.

Experiences with FFRs ("Field Force Rep" or in your terminology "interview person") varies pretty substantially. Generally though, it seems too early to be reaching out to your area FFR in the Winter of your junior year of high school. There is probably no reason to contact the FFR until a substantial portion of your application has been submitted - so you should probably be thinking summer when you will be a rising high school senior - at earliest. Sometimes, a FFR will reach out to you before you have contacted them. But, that is not a problem. It is not particularly uncommon for a FFR to wait until an application is either complete or very nearly complete before an interview will be scheduled.

My DS went to SLE last year, and his FFR contacted him to set up an interview in the fall. DS and I had different opinions on whether the SLE one counted, so I guess it didn’t. For some reason, I thought the SLE one was with a cadet.

DS scheduled it with his FFR and I kind of forgot about it and then asked one day when it was. And he said, “oh, I did it last week.” Oh, when? “Well I told her I didn’t get home from football until 7:00 pm so it was right after that. So then I’m like, oh no, did you at least change???!!!. “No, she knew I was logging in straight from football practice.” 🤦‍♀️ I proceeded to freak out until he said, “mom, chill, she was in a hoodie and baseball cap.” 😆

Not sure the reason behind. It could be DS didn't pass CFA during SLE but still consider admissible in our district.
He went along to have another interview. It was a little over an hour interview with FFR though.
