USAFA Waiting Thread C/O 2027

Hey for all the appointees, I made a discord so we can get to know each other. The invite code is 8UbWvsQKve, it would be cool to see you there. It's being moderated so please be respectful of others.

Question regarding Children of Disabled Veterans...
I am aware of the Children of Disabled Veterans nomination and understand the Veteran has to be 100% rated. Does anyone know if Children of Disabled, not 100% carries any weight at any of the SA's?

From studying the charts that @AFrpaso produces (thanks!), it looks like there is usually one massive wave of appointments around mid March with a little uptick in advance of the big wave. Given the DoDMERB issues, I want to believe that the massive wave is still yet to come. Anyone else optimistically seeing it that way? I know it's not healthy to try to read into the patterns, and I know the Academy can do what it wants when it wants, but being a bit of a data cruncher and analyst, I couldn't resist pointing that out. Maybe there are a lot of appointments that came out today that still haven't been self reported, and maybe today WAS the big wave? 😓

It could carry some weight but not as a nomination category

They offer 100 and if I read correctly only 66 (give or take) took it last year. My opinion is that the 34 missing got picked up. Hang in there!
I have it on pretty good authority (a source at one of the FF prep schools) that 200 or so FF offers were made last year in order to get the 66 scholars. The rest turned it down for one reason or another.

Wonder why they turn it down..makes the first and 2nd year a bit more academically manageable

There could be many good reasons, most being what they consider a better alternative. Some undoubtedly got direct appointments to other SAs or other SA prep offers. Some undoubtedly won ROTC scholarships. Some probably got a college acceptance with better scholarship/FA than they were expecting. Some may have ended up getting direct appointments to the AFA. And then some number just opted against it for whatever reason.

I received an email saying my portal updated, but I am too nervous and scared to open it. I have waited my entire high school year so I would be disappointed if I don't get accepted but I know I will try again
Oh gosh. I feel your pain! Whatever you find when you click, it sounds like you've got your head screwed on straight about it. If it's not the YES you want, if you already know you won't be bowed, then click that button! Again, don't know you from Adam, but somehow I'm proud of you!

How would they know? DS didn't ask us about any disability ratings when he filled out his app last year. The only thing they asked about was military service in the family. Just rank, branch, and SA grad or not.

I think it’s going to heavily depend on when people are medically qualified and the waivers given out. I’m still waiting too!

His portal will update with decision news, likely between now and mid-April, including no offer this cycle.

Don’t forget USAFA can choose other fully qualified nominees from the same slate, and charge those to other nom authorities they manage, if he doesn’t “win” the slate and receive an appointment charge to the Senator.

Keep a hopeful mind…and wait.
Son rec'd LOA today!!!! Email was in his junk folder. Good luck everyone!

Child Disabled Vet is a nomination that can be applied for just like Presidential. The Academy will know because it will be detailed in the application just like Children of Medal of Honor recipients.
