USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

He cleared his test at the medical facility Mar 1, but found out they have yet to forward the results to DODMERB. It's quite a bit of challenge to reach out to anyone in that facility. Goes from one voice mail to the other. No call back ever. They just don't care. My fear is that would their negligence ultimately result in a denial by USNA if deadlines are not met.
It’s not that they don’t care. Users need to trust the process. I’ve never heard, in all the years here and elsewhere, of things not moving through appropriately, once in the system. If USNA wants him and they don’t have his medical results yet, an LOA appointment will be offered, contingent upon medical. And then things will move through from USNA’s end.

*EDIT: checked posts and it looks like your son does have an LOA. He is in a great position. You need to be patient and let the process work through*

He is in the system where he needs to be. Appointments are offered ALL THE TIME contingent upon medical.

It’s that they are prioritizing things. Respectfully NOTHING moves quickly in the Military. There is no ‘instant gratification’ that our society is used to.

A couple weeks since the appointment is still considered ‘soon’, by military standards. Especially post Covid, where everything, still, is affected.

Have faith and be patient. Appointments can a do proceed sans medical things. Sometimes even up until Iday. The SA’s have been at this a very long time, and are very adept and good at what they do.

I think the turnaround is only this quick if an LOA is involved.

DD was medically cleared in August, no waivers required, and has been CPR since October with a nom in December. Still we wait. In very good company, and celebrating along with all of you the great news of appointment offers.

Love your post midnight story of your DDs appointment, exciting times ahead!
To be honest, DD had a pretty complicated medical history for about a year when she was 10. She had 5 DQ codes, 4 of them we were very confident she would get a waiver, the last was iffy. We figured we would be waiting up to April 15th for her waiver and possibly called in for evaluations. Luckily, we were able to get all of her medical records quickly when the original remedial hit in early February. DodMERB DQ'd her after her remedials and added a couple more codes as a cherry on top. Which, we had pulled records for after reviewing the original records. West Point gave her the TWE two days after that (around Feb 20th) and she was VERY discouraged.

One of the DQ's was for childhood speech apraxia that really bothered her because she had worked so hard to overcome it when she was a toddler to early grade school. In fact, her Speech Apraxia has made her perfect officer material due to the extreme emphasis on exaggerating her articulators and encouragement to talk loud during her speech therapy!;) One of the nomination committee members empathized with her during her nomination interview because she also had apraxia. Her LOA from USNA on 3/1 gave her some hope that a waiver would come, then it was shouts for joy in the Blue Hen household when her waiver was granted on 3/14.

Thanks for the words of encouragement and my sincere apologies for the pre-mature comments. Respectfully.

Wow, loads of ups and downs in the last month! Great that USNA knew they wanted her and let her know with the LOA, I'm sure that eased things a bit in your household.

Happy to see a few appointments finding their way to the forum today. Keep them coming!!

Serious question (not snarky, written comments are sometimes hard to decipher). What would make you think you aren't academically qualified if you received a principal nomination? Didn't your MOC ask for your academic record? I have a hard time believing they would give a principal nomination to someone who didn't meet the basic academic requirements for admissions. Regardless, best wishes in your waiting!
Not snarky at all! My overall ACT score is a 24 and my SAT is 1010. I am graduating high school with my AA in health science with is why they did not look at my ACT and SAT that much I believe. I am in high school while taking 12-17 credit hours at three rivers. I just have seen where people with principal nominations did not get chosen and I think if they didn't want me they could base it on my overall scores.

It happens. Not often, but it can happen. Million reasons I could give. Don’t count yourself out! And if your record stood out so well during the MOC process it will to USNA. Even if not qualified, maybe USNA says NAPS! Hang in there.
Thank You for the words of encouragement!!

Keep your chin up and realize it’s March 17th and you are still in the game with a Principal nomination. If you weren’t academically qualifie, you would have surely been weeded out by now. Are you qualified physically and medically? Work plan B and C.

This is what I keep hoping for my son. His standardized test scores were not as high as he'd have liked but he checks all the other boxes. I just keep hoping that if they were going to find him not qualified, he'd have gotten the TWE by now.

A few questions for those in the know:
1. Do the portal appointment updates occur only weekdays or also on the weekends?
2. Do the updates occur during USNA business hours or day and night?
3. Is there always an email notification associated with a portal status update? (My DD just checks her email and rarely logs into her portal.)

Thanks in advance!

Someone said it earlier; you can have 1500 on your SAT, 30+ ACT, 4+ GPA, leader in everything, athlete, multiple noms and can still be waiting right now and still not get into class of 2027. They could be looking for anything and you might be the piece of puzzle that fits! Please keep hope and keep positive and know that you are amazing and also that if USNA is your chosen destiny then keep applying!!! Good luck all:)!

I only can answer #3. She will receive an email!

I am one of these people with the >1500 SAT 35 ACT, etc...but only 1 nom and I am so discouraged. I understand they are working on a unique and quality class, but it doesn't help the discouragement of sitting CPR since 9/4/22. But despite it all, I am always happy to see someone get an appointment! It is very exciting! Keep 'em coming USNA!!

I wouldn't say that only having one nom. even is the problem! Yes, you can compete in more pools with more noms but most members of a class would only have one I would assume.

Its possible it could be athletics or leadership but in most cases I would assume it is geographic and just comes down to the fact that as other have said there simply isn't enough spots.

Best of luck but don't beat yourself up about the nomination situation or anything else. It seems like you've done all you can and sometimes that is all you can do. Best of luck and prayers.

My 2021' Grad had very similar standardized scores. He did have a 4+ GPA. He did get the Principal Nom from our MOC. I planned a European vacation over I-Day because I didn't think there was a snowball's chance. He got the Principal Nom for a reason, as did you. My "understanding" (now) is they have to have a pretty darn good reason not to offer the Appointment to the Principal Nom. If you have an aggressive MOC (or Committee) they could look into it. Best of Luck to you!!!

Thanks for the encouragement and especially the prayers! I have the athletics, leadership, part-time job, community service, student pilot with solo rating, etc. But you are right! I did do everything I could...even pulled off 6 pull-ups (girl) for CFA...LOL...but it may just not be what they need for this class. I'll keep hoping! Thanks again! I see you are in the Class of 2027...HUGE CONGRATS!!!

1. Not sure. I received the call from my congressman on Monday and then saw the portal update on Tuesday night.
2. They can happen at night. My portal updated to show my appointment at 11 pm CST.
3. No. Didn't receive an email notification for my appointment.

Thanks for the encouragement...much appreciated! My MOC uses the competitive method for noms...but I do appreciate the advice!!

Wow! Killed the CFA. Best of luck and hoping you can rest easy (or as much as possible) during these last few months regardless of how this plays out. You sound like a better candidate then I do XD. But then again, maybe I come from a less competitive area? Who knows. Either way sending good vibes your way!

And thanks for the congrats! Appointment accepted.... only the beginning! Nearing 100 days to I-Day!
