March Madness 🏀

Wow Iowa v Louisville - first time I watched Caitlyn Clark.

First woman to get 30 point triple double in tournament … finished with 41 points. Spectacular player.

This is the first time that none of my picks made the Final Four. Amazing tournament.

I read an interesting article about this basketball tournament and the correlation with elective surgery scheduling.
Apparently the amount of vasectomies scheduled the week this tournament begins, increases ten-fold.

I guess the "sit on a couch with some ice in your lap" is more palatable with basketball to watch all day.:p

Maybe its the result of lost bets. . . "I'll bet you a vasectomy on my team getting into the tournament"

I think I would rather wait another month for the Master's weekend.

And it gives you a chance to do so with an excuse the wife will buy.

Fun game tonight (unless you are a Buckeye). Virginia Tech women are on a roll and making some Hokie history.

Iowa beats South Carolina. Caitlyn Clark with another tremendous game.

SC is huge. Dominated the boards.

I will have to watch Iowa women next season.

Caitlin Clark is the GOAT

And also an amazing human.

Great ambassador for women’s sports.

She is sticking around for a couple more years.

Iowa had a dominant game last night. I keep thinking ‘it’s not real’, that at some point, the bubble will break. But Iowa, the TEAM, has been unbelievable in the elite 8/final 4.

It’s going to be fun Sunday!

I watched most of the women's championship. I thought Angel Reese showed absolutely NO CLASS and the end of the game... waving her ring finger in Caitlin Clark's face. Very poor sportsman ship. She's a disgrace.

No anthem
No handshaking after the game
Calling her a hoe during freethrows
Wearing a crown for intros

I’m obviously a fan of Iowa. I think their story has been amazing. They have a very different vibe, if you follow them or read about their journey. Their coach sets a great example of how they are called to be ambassadors for more than the game. Listen to her post game interviews.

LSU It’s a different culture, that’s for sure. My friend shared a picture of her 14 yr old dd getting flipped off by angel outside the stadium, as a young hawk fan.

What was shocking to me, was the reffing. The biggest moment for women’s basketball, with thousands of new viewers tuning in to see what all the hoopla was about, and each team with two starters on the bench and not playing in the first half. Weird. A missed opportunity imo to showcase the sport.

I also am seriously not understanding how LSU coach can walk freely about the floor. And not just a little. The whole game. No warning. Should be tossed. Especially after having hands on the REF.

Oh well. A lot of people talking about the game. Many records for viewership set. Excited to see if the love hangs around for next year. It was a great tourney!!

Now for the men’s finale! Hoping for a good game.

Dug out my SDSU shirt my son gave me years ago. Hope it brings luck. It's going to be a tough game against UCONN. I'll settle for another buzzer beater! Go Aztecs!

Four out of five starters were transfers in? How is allowing teams to "shop" for talent good for the game or for the schools?
I had a D1 basketball players in my class and he seemed to be moving each year. I think it was counterproductive to his education
and really goes against what college sports should be.

Interesting, one of the senior players played for Kim at Baylor. And was kicked off the team. She then transferred to 2 or 3 more schools, eventually ending up back with Kim at LSU.

Transferring/NIL/portal all have changed the game. Clark is reportedly making 2mill on NIL/endorsements. She is sticking around….she probably won’t make that much in the WNBA.

It’s a whole different landscape now.

Clark is not draft eligible this year. And yes she is making a lot of money. Will those endorsements continue at the pro level, Who knows? At the pro level it’s more than talent, you have to sell also. Will she be in the running for the Olympic Team? Maybe. Yes she won’t make a lot in the WNBA, but today she technically gets zero to play. Max salary is $202k. Highest paid player is $252k. Other make more such as Stewie but that is because it’s endorsements. It’s all about endorsements as that is what gives them retirement level money. Clark is a very talented player. She can do things that no one else can to date. There will be another.

Yes, the transfer portal has changed the game. It has not been uncommon to see players at 2-4 schools in the same amount of years. The extra COVID year also changed things. I believe they have made a slight change to the portal for next year, that will make a 3rd or 4th change tough.

I'm not a fan of the extra year and can't wait till that is past and opening.
Limiting the portal to prevent constant moves would be a good thing.

I understand the intent of the portal as it allowed players who were recruited by certain coaches to move on if the coaches changed. I understand the intent of this rule as it can be really impactful. I mean a coach that doesn’t recruit you or fit a certain system can be challenging, so I like the ability to move. But moving every year is ridiculous. With COVID it allowed a free for all too. Also transfer portal stats are interesting. Don’t quote me on this but only around 60% or so DI basketball players who entered the portal landed at other schools. The number is closer to 30% at the DII level.
