Does anyone know exactly what is meant by certified copy of birth certificate that needs to be sent to USMA?
Thanks

Certified copies are issued by your state's Dept of Health or Vital Records Division and most have a raised seal to authenticate them.

What they mean by certified copy is one with a raised seal on it. It can not be a photo copy of your original birth certificate. Usually you can obtain a certified copy from the records department in the city in which you were born.

birth certificates

For USNA, the instructions said that a certified copy of the birth cert OR a notarized copy of the certified copy. I even sent an e-mail to our regional director asking if this was really accurate....so we took the birth certificate with the raised seal to a notary public at the bank, she made a copy and then signed and afixed her raised seal certifiying that it was a notarized copy of the original (raised seal).

I imagine it's the same at USMA.

A certified copy of your birth certificate is proof of your age and birth place (citizenship).

It's easy to get a certified copy of your birth certificate go to the Vital Statitics department in your state - you can probably order it online.

If you have one in your possession; i.e. the one your parents got when you were born - don't send that in. Keep it and order another.

Yeah it was easy to do online for Pennsylvania. You just had to plug in your personal info and pay like 20 bucks and mine came in a few days.

I am not sure if you all are aware, ( I found this out after we lost birth certificates due to a Hurricane). You are only allowed 10 certfied copies of your birth certificate for the rest of your life. Apparently, they changed this after 911.

In what state?

I know the federal government restricts a person to 10 lifetime copies of their Social Security card, but birth certificates are issued by the states, not the federal government.

Can you post a link to your information?

Er...I was born in New Jersey, and now I live in Texas. What am I supposed to do about this, exactly?

Go online to the New Jersey department of Vital Statistics. google it. it will tell you how you can get your birth certificate.
