USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

My son just got back from trying to get a flu shot (required for his NROTC paperwork (hurray to having happy Plan B's!)) and CVS's systems are all down so he has to go back later. That's it. That's the update.

(Trying to get us to 90 pages by sun down.)

I believe you would know if you are a recruited athlete.
it’s weird with my app, because i contacted the coach since june and we have been talking about playing for the academy from june to now. but the coach hasn’t explicitly said i’m recruited but he talks as if im will be there this ps.

Does the USNA do recruited walk-ons? I mean everybody is on scholarship there so I'd say no but who knows In any event this might be your case gordt.

For things like XC/Track, there are recruiting standards, invited walk-on standards, and minimum tryout standards for times. I'm not sure how that would translate to other sports??

My DD talked to the varsity volleyball asst coach responsible for recruiting last weekend. She was told, for volleyball, during plebe summer the recruited female volleyball players and other female plebes who want to play volleyball, practice together, without the coaches present. Current varsity players are present and if they see someone, they think may have potential they tell the coaches. Now that DD is going to NAPS she will have to wait a year.

That is an interesting way to recruit additional players. I like it.

this honestly might be the case. my only worry is that recruits are normally accepted earlier on or given loa/nass offers but i’m still cpr.

I might try killing time for the next 10 or so days by mindlessly scrolling Instagram and TikTok for hours at a time. I swear, I’ll get a minute or two to myself to laugh at some funny reels and POOF! I swear the minutes fly by 😂. May as well use the time suck to my advantage while waiting to hear from USNA. Follow me for more lifestyle tips….

There are different levels of recruiting. You most likely are not a ‘blue chip’, or you would know it (has your parents had a convo with coach? Have you had an official visit?). My oldest fell into this category. There are also lower level recruits. Where ‘hey, you have a spot if you make it in on your own’. My youngest was this level.

You could ask your coach, if your application is being endorsed or flagged as a recruited athlete? Recruited athletes have an assigned admissions process. Doesn’t mean it’s an appointment, but rather handled by one specific area.

Or? You could wait and see if you receive an appointment like everyone else. And then an invite to a team meeting the night before Iday (we had that for our sport. Not sure every sport does, but I would think so).

BTW, neither of mine had LOA’s, and my low level recruit was actually waitlisted. Athletes are a dime a dozen, tbh, at service academies. Unless you are a blue chip.

So true! My son is a swimmer and a runner, has been varsity swim all 4 years (and a lifetime of club swim), top 7 XC all 4 years, spring season he alternates between track and water polo. Everyone keeps asking if he's being recruited. By USNA!?! Nah, they've got runners and swimmers coming out their ears. LOL!!!

idk i didn’t have an official visit because the coach knows that i know the academy because of my older brother being a grad. and idk if this matters but i’m in college (sophomore year) so idk if he wanted to say i was recruited because there’s no signing day or commitment day for me because i’m out of hs. i think i will just keep waiting, i’ve only got a week and a half left till 15th .

My son is a non-blue chip recruit. He was in the same boat as in the “I’ve been talking to the coach but it’s different since we aren’t talking scholarships, so I don’t know what it means” He actually found out officially through admissions that his file was flagged as a recruit. If you were interested in knowing for sure, it would be easy to ask your admissions rep. (He is also still sitting at CPR, so it definitely wasn’t an automatic ticket for him.)

Magic 8 Ball 🎱 update: Ask Again Later

And then there’s that one time when you have to explain why you still haven’t heard from USNA…and they tell you they know an “Admiral” or “some highly ranked officer” they can maybe reach out to for you. Um…we’re good thanks though!

I am really proud of my DS for his calmness. I would describe him as "Cool as a Cucumber." But as his dad, I feel emotionally abused by this process lol to be honest. I hope we get the Good Word soon.
This is my situation exactly.
I made a post a while back about how this probably isn't the case but rather that DS is just succeeding in making you think he is "cool as a cucumber". I was being driven nuts but wouldn't dare show it :biglaugh:

Thinking of everyone regardless of how their DD's and DS's feel or how their parents THINK they feel. Often not the same!

Well, CAPT Pete Mitchell was able to pull someone's application, so outside ranking officer influence is possible.
I had someone ask me the other day how this is possible after asking about post graduation plans... my response being I am not a member of hollywood USNA Admissions... Heck, I'm not even a plebe yet. I think I said something about how Maverick must have been an admissions officer and quickly changed the topic to talk about how USNA uses commissioned officers for admissions.

But in all seriousness: is it ever heard of to have officer influence like this :biglaugh: ?
