USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

Maybe way back in the day. But incredibly doubtful now. Too many layers of checks and balances.

(But I still have my own opinions on MoC noms, even though they are supposed to be impartial as well).

🎱 has not been good to me tonight so I'm sticking with reading tea leaves. Only I don't drink tea. I drink wine. And there's no leaves in it which is a good thing. So I choose to take that as a good sign. I'm confident this means I should keep drinking wine and leave the 🎱 alone. 😂

Brilliant logic.

First off, let me state that my nerves and over-thinking brain are taking over, most likely like a lot of you! I know that a nom is a nom; however, is it easier to get in if you have a nom from your local Congress member vs the state senator? We live in a highly competitive district where MOCs will not let you apply for multiple service academies and they will not double-nominate (traditionally). When my DS was applying for his noms he was torn between two service academies so he basically gambled and split up his noms. Luckily, he did get noms for both service academies, but his one for USNA is from our state senator. Initially, we were thrilled about this, since our senator had approximately 900 applications and my son got a nomination from him, but now I am thinking it may be harder to get in that way vs. if he had gone through our local congress member. I'm thinking this because now we are looking at the fact that he is competing against the state pool of applicants, vs the local. I know that all of the kids that have made it this far are exceptional, I am just wondering if my DS may have unknowingly shot himself in the foot by rolling the dice the way he
From NY. We ran into a similar situation. We have heard positive news from one academy and awaiting news from navy.

Quote from US Senator Gillibrand's website on SA candidates from NYC:

"the academies are particularly eager to receive applications from NYC students, as both urban and minority candidates are underrepresented as officers in the United States military, and it is important that our nation’s leadership reflect the diversity of its people."

Is it true that applications from NYC kids are eagerly awaited by SAs?

A bottle of wine that has been cellared for a long time and not decanted properly will give you dregs if not poured right. I'm sure the answer lies there!!

Time to break out that 20 year-old Bordeaux and crack it open!! ;)

Well...I have been a quiet "observer" for some time now but after talking to my mom yesterday I had to share her story as it made me laugh. I have turned to these forums for over a year now for both ROTC and USNA as they provide great information. I referenced the forums to her a lot but she never ventured. Yesterday she did! She was looking into something completely different for our other son who is at a different academy and somehow ended up finding the "infamous" USNA forum. She found this thread....the waiting and speculating one...and spent the following two and a half hours reading up! The Magic 8 Ball threads made her laugh and her telling me about it made me laugh (much needed!).

We continue to wait, and wait and wait but we know the waiting will soon end. We also know that whatever is meant to happen will happen and we are all ok with that. Plan AA (we prefer that over plan B :) ), although not his first choice, is an awesome plan and will get him to what he really wants to do which is to serve. All of these young adults will thrive wherever they end up!

Thank you for making these last few weeks memorable and enjoyable. Here is to waiting! Wishing everyone nothing but the best.

It is true but don't take it for what it is not. . . an easier avenue for applicants. USNA Admissions reflects the desire to get "more"
from NYC and a few other cities such as Houston, Los Angeles and Chicago by deploying "Field Admissions Representatives" to
those cities with a specific emphasis on minority recruitment. They do of course also assist non-minorities and folks outside of
their cities but again their main purpose is minority and urban recruitment.

Are you mom? Or candidate??

And welcome!

No one can really understand the world of an SA applicant. Except other SA applicants. And parents.

This is an amazingly supportive place, full of real experience. Awesome people who are giving of their time.

Yes, there are some spicy threads. Keeps things interesting g at times. And you can also take care of your bacon 🥓, adult beverage (once 21 of course) 🍷, car 🚗, dog 🐶, and general dad humor over in the off topic area. For a nice diversion (and delicious cooking tips and recipes!!).

It tends to get a little loopy this time of year 🙃🫣🤪🎱!!

Good Morning Waiters and speculators! Lucky for you, you can’t hear my singing.
We’re down to single digits to the 4/15, date when we might have clarity of a yay or nay or certainty of a longer wait.

Thankful for the great questions asked and answered here on SAF and especially for the knowledgeable folks who take their time to help newbies like me.
