USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

idk i didn’t have an official visit because the coach knows that i know the academy because of my older brother being a grad. and idk if this matters but i’m in college (sophomore year) so idk if he wanted to say i was recruited because there’s no signing day or commitment day for me because i’m out of hs. i think i will just keep waiting, i’ve only got a week and a half left till 15th .
Which sport? This may help us understand a little more. Are you competing in this sport at your current college, or is it something you did in high school? Not being invited for an official visit, is usually an indicator that you're not a recruited athlete. Have you set up an NCAA account, to make sure you are eligible to compete? Has the coach mentioned coming to practices/tryouts over plebe summer, possibly to see if you can walk-on.

I think I've finally started to go a little crazy over here. My DD has been CPR for what feels like 10 yrs now 🤣
Being a fly on the wall in these forums has been a roller-coaster of emotions, but extremely educational. I only wish I had half the knowledge when we started down this path.
As the end draws near, I worry there is a TWE in her near future. Atleast she has a great backup plan and the drive to reapply. However, it isn't over until its over.

Thank you for the support, guidance, education, and most of all the laughs! Good luck to all!

I agree! I'm going crazy too with this wait.

So been reading a lot of these posts and I have a son of my own applying this year. I see people talking about NAPS, talking about reapplying next year ..all sorts of things. While it is an honor to attend the boat school, it’s just one or many commissioning sources. I, myself was an OCS graduate. I served as an aviator, with many other officers in a very talented ward room. You wouldn’t be able to tell the diffidence between an Academy grad , an OCS grad or an NROTC sourced grad (and yes my academy friends agree with this statement as well).
The point of this post is that the end game is service. Of course the academy is the shiny ball we are all reaching for. But if you’re seeking a commission in the US Navy ….that should be the end game. Why would you reapply again the following year if you had an NROTC acceptance ? Or be excited for a year with NAPS delaying your chance to serve another year ?? If you have the opportunity to be commissioned now in one of the finest services the world over ..:take it ! It’s nice to tell your friends and parents that little Johnny was accepted into the NA , but at the end of the day it’s about what happens after the first salute. So take the shot …that’s what we are doing but please don’t obsess over the whole thing. Officers and sailors are remembered for what they did during tenure of service. Not how they got there.

First, thank you for your service.

Second, I agree whole heartedly with your message. We have a family member in OCS now and it was the right path for him. He was able to attend the college of his choice, have his freedom, play D1 sports during his 4 years of schooling and once graduated reported to OCS. It's the right path for many. And ROTC is an awesome commissioning path as well.

I joke here about the 450-odd day wait since the app process began because in the short terms as a mom, for me it's about what I can control and the logistics of it. Will we be cramming family vaca in in June or a more leisurely vaca in July? Will she be full fledge adult in June with military obligations or will the change happen over a longer period wherein I'm mainly responsible for her? Does she need to find a room mate and purchase dorm gear or is she leaving behind all worldly belongings and departing home with a zip lock bag in her hand? Is she keeping her job this summer or will she be a plebe?

I'm sure there are many candidates and parents here processing these more easy thoughts as well as some far more complicated thoughts. Thankfully we have one another to commiserate and laugh with 'cause I don't think there are many other circumstances quite like this, or none that I've encountered just yet. SA admissions process is not for the faint of heart.

This is exactly right . For me. It is the ability to not plan the next 3 months of our family’s life lol!

We're in the same exact boat. :-(

My DD are in the same boat with the same experience and worries. This forum has made me laugh, sigh, and roll my eyes at times but I’ve learned a lot. Thank you all!
