Class of 2027 Waitlist

And, if no joy and re-application is next step, be assured USCGA will not forget they made it to the waitlist, as people they would be happy to have in the class if there is room. That is a force multiplier with another year of hard work and determination.

This is exactly true! Anyone willing to "double down" and go through the process a second time after being waitlisted but passed over, will surely get extra consideration next year! Just work at showing improvements in all areas of the WCS concept, but especially any perceived slight short comings. After my sons second year "Declined", they couldn't point to anything in particular that was a "short coming", so he focused on the concept of "using the setback as a way to demonstrate Leadership".
If this is still your dream, don't give up! Decide that you WILL prevail!

My DD was waitlisted. ( 2nd time applying) Not sure if she will accept as she loves her current college. Can we schedule a USCGA visit while she’s waitlisted?

I don’t know the answer to your question but I just love to hear that your dd is loving her current plan b school! I feel like ds’ plan b is pretty awesome and am hoping he will be happy if he winds up there as well.

While I certainly hope she gets pulled off the waitlist, might I suggest that if Coast Guard Commisioning remains the dream, it's still very possible with a lot of plan B schools. CSPI is the Coast Guards commisioning program. I'm not an expert, but I think it's a bit like ROTC for the CG, but also includes OCS at the Coast Guard Academy after graduation I believe. She will get her last 2 yrs of college paid for, and be sworn into the Service, so on the payroll. Comparable to Cadets at the Academy.
It's available at Minority Serving Universities across the country. (But not limited to minority students whatsoever). The vast majority of larger schools here in TX are on the list.
Easy to google which schools are eligible.
Worth looking into at least. I suggest a search for "CSPI Coast Guard commisioning". And possibly a call to a local CG recruiting office, as the next step.
Or, do like my DS did, bridge the gap with a year at MMI for their Service Academy Prep program. (Jr college). You will certainly have a leg up in the Service Academy pursuit as a "self-prep" at Marion! While simultaneously preparing for a strong plan B again. Lots of options.

Currently she’s at a Maritime Academy and they offer the Mar- grad program. She loves her school, has done everything under the Sun there but I just want her to see everything that the USCGA has to offer if she’s accepted. The road less traveled can reap many more experiences.

Hello All! My DS was also waitlisted and a little bummed since this is his first choice academy after experiencing AIM last summer. So now, I guess we wait. We're pursuing plan B, and also waiting for USNA, but really hoping this still happens for him! Hope everyone else is still hanging in there. :)

CSPI is at specific colleges, not universally applicable. I think the majority are at historically minority serving institutions.

True, but it is an option at more than you would expect. My daughter considered this as her plan B. As long as a school has over 50% minority students (not 50% of one specific minority...but total 50% minority) then you can put in a request to have it considered for being added to the list of eligible institutions if it isn't already on the list. That doesn't mean they will say yes, but it will be considered.

My DS was wait listed as well. He’s now looking at and applying to MMI and GMC for self-prep as plan B. Hopefully he won’t need it!
There is a waitlist thread with a list of waiters, if you want to add your name!!

This waitlist looks like it’s for the USNA. He only applied to the CGA so it doesn’t really apply for him. Thanks.

Oopsies got lost. Sorry about that and NVM!!

A bit of a let down this weekend, since my DS got a TWE from USNA. In a way that lets us push forward and get excited for his Plan B (YAY!), but I'm reminded that he still has a chance here at his top SA choice here at USCGA. Anyone know how we can best prepare just in case he gets pulled off the list really late in the game?

I would say he should make sure he stays in shape. Get him a passport if he doesn't have one. Make sure his immunizations are up-to-date...there are always a couple that most kids don't have even if they've done all the "regular" ones.
