Just wondered if anyone had gone, or known anyone who had gone from the Enlisted side of the house to the Point.

I have seen a few different places that say if accepted the AD soldier will PCS to West Point. But I know that some items are "prohibited" for cadets. I am trying to find out a little bit more about the transition from active duty to the academy.

Any help would be appreciated.

My roommate is prior service. What specific questions do you have?

What were some of the proceedures for the transition? How does it differ from the civilian process?

Were all of the personal effects (vehicle, TA-50, ect) authorized or did it need to go into storage? I've been active duty for 2 years and have a lot of items that are needed for living on base, but will probably not be needed or authorized at the Point (at least from what I gather).

I guess that I am just trying to find some information on the program. Most of the information that is available online is for HS students going right into the Academy. It is difficult to find info on prior service.

There is an entire section on the admission website devoted to Enlisted applicants:

Please contact:
Major Brian Easley (DSN) 688-5780, (800) 822-USMA x5780, or (845) 938-5780, or e-mail at

Major Easley is an Admissions officer who handles all soldier admissions. He will be happy to answer all your questions.

Thank you for the info.

I do have Maj Easley's number, but before I begin asking him, I thought I'd try to get some answers at the "lowest level" so to speak.

Gotcha - FWIW, you will be required to put all your possessions in storgage. You will live in the barracks. About your car, you will either have to find some place to store it or sell it. I think many prior service take leave just prior to R-Day to have time to take care of their personal business.
Good Luck to you - I think you will find Maj Easley to be very helpful.

Thank you for the help and well wishes. Hopefully all will go well from here on out.

I asked and his parents took care of keeping everything for him.

Just call Major Easley like everyone else said. :thumb:
