SAT scores

I just got my updated SAT scores of M:620 and CR:680

College board said that they have sent the scores to USNA on Feb 9th, however my CIS has not been updated.

How long does it typically take to update the scores on the CIS?



also, typically how many minorities apply to USNA?

It took a couple weeks for my ACT scores to show up on the CIS and that was after calling to confirm they had recieved them. When I retook it, it took about 2-3 weeks again, but this time I didn't call. If you feel like its been taking too long you can call admissions otherwise sit tight and they'll probably show up soon.

No -- USNA doesn't care, in part b/c SATs are popular in some areas of the country and ACTs in others.

However, it is my personal opinion that your MOCs may. If you live in an SAT area (where most kids take SATs), MOC nom committees are inherently more familiar with those tests -- ditto with ACTs in ACT areas. Thus, in an SAT area, they intuitively understand what a 620/680 means. If you tell them you have 28/29, they may have to look it up -- depending on how long they've been doing committee work. I wouldn't keep retaking a test that you're not doing well in simply to make life easier for your MOC nom committees. They CAN look up your scores on the comparison charts. I'm merely stating that a good score in a "familiar" test may make your life easier. Again, just my impression from having served on a nom committee years ago. Others may well disagree.

Please be aware that due to the weather conditions in the Bay area USNA has had a few days off. It may take a little longer.

I can see that one of the problems engendered by this era of instant communications is an awful lot of anxiety. Back in the old days it didn't bother us that it took weeks for things to get changed because we didn't have access to them anyway. Not that I would want to turn the clock back.

Re the SAT/ACT discussion, I generally recommend to my candidates that they take both exams at least once to determine which exam style favors them - there are some differences. USNA will consider your best scores on either exam and will mix and match scores from both exams to give you the advantage of your highest scores.

To USNA1985 and/or 1964BGO: If our application to USNA Summer Seminar did not contain SAT scores when submitted (scores came out after application submitted), but we called USNA Admissions after results came out, and informed them of results, should we submit anything in writing or rely on the person we talked with to record the SAT results? Our impression was the person we talked with entered them into whatever data base or system USNA was using. R/S
