My son just received his denial letter from KBH which states, "Although you were evaluated by the Academy Selection Board, my office learned that Congressman Conaway nominated you...." So no multiple noms here, but my son is extremely grateful for the one. -officer

I still have not received my letter from Kay Bailey Hutchison. When did yours come? I have been waiting for it and her website said that letters would be sent out in January. Very frustrating...

Silence of the Hutch

My son also has not gotten any word. He had received a nomination from his congressman, so I anticipate that he will get a letter that tells him since he has gotten one from his MOC that she would not be giving him one. Nonetheless, the courtesy of a response would have been nice.

My son received his letter yesterday. It said her review board selected his application, but because he received a nomination from Rep. Lloyd Doggett, she went with another candidate.

I love the system here in Texas. I know there are some kiddos that would love to have multiple nominations, but this gives opportunities to other candidates to receive a nomination. One of the most important things to remember is only ONE is needed.

When did yours come?

We got the letter on Saturday, so you might get one today. She went on to explain that she didn't offer son appointment because she communicated with other officials in Texas as to not give a duplicate nomination to anyone so Texas could have as many kids as possible in the SA's. I think that is VERY COOL. -officer

We were told she reviewed all nom in jan. which is not true. She is one who meets in oct. and names most but does wait until she hears from the other moc. to name a few more. She knows in Oct. if you are on her list. I got some strange answer from her office. Look on the lists and see that some received a nom in Nov.

Daughter got the same letter from KBH on Sat 13Feb.

I wonder how it looks for Texas kids not to get multiple nominations when in some states a candidate may get all three (2 Sen and 1 Rep)???

(I know, no one knows the answer. I'm just waiting and wondering.)

Janet
Daughter's got the Nom, got the SAT/ACT scores, got the CFA, waiting for the waiver and the appt.

the backup plan:

Actually, the SAs have a pretty good idea of the states where multiple noms are either not possible or very rare. Thus, it doesn't hurt you.

Of course, you may still not get an appointment, but I've seen kids with 3 noms (2 MOC, 1 Pres) not get an appointment. So, if you live in Texas and don't get an appt, don't assume it's b/c you only got one nom.

KBH's office told us (last year) that they nominate 5 right away, like early November. Then communicate with MOC's across the state to compare notes and nominate the other five the end of January. Well, our MOC apparently did not communicate with her, because son got her nom as well as one from local rep. Her staffer said some MOC's do not communicate with her, so a candidate could theoretically wind up with two noms. Seems like if they are going to play the game, they all oughta play!

Anyway, KBH's office called son with news of his appointment, local rep did not call.

KBH's office also told us that they were "put out" that Sen Cornyn was hosting an event in May for all SA appointees from Texas. Without including KBH as part of the hosting cadre.

Politics!

So several day after this post the expected communication finally arrived. What a curious year it has been.

as a parent of a child who has received 2 nominations from Texas, one from Senator Hutchison and one from our Congressman, we know first hand that the number of nominations means nothing in the "big picture"......
