how does the whole express scholarship process work? I was not selected for an AFROTC scholarship but I am still considering enrolling in the program but do I contact the detachment now or do I wait until I am in the ROTC program at the school.

This is what I was told by an AFROTC PMS:

"Although your son did not complete the AFROTC High School scholarship application, there are still opportunities for him to be earn and be awarded an AFROTC scholarship.

Probably the most straight forward opportunity would be the Express Scholarship awarded to cadets pursuing electrical engineering degrees. After meeting the prerequisites for the scholarship, to include completing at least 1 semester of college and AFROTC, cadets may be eligible for this scholarship.

After that, there are other scholarship opportunities based on merit."

Express scholarships are awarded for majors in high demand ie. electrical engineering. There are others. Best info will be provided by PMS at school you are interested in attending.
