Roller coaster I: Get Us (The Parents) Through Plebe Year - Class of ‘26 🎢

So the entire company of plebes is moving to another company? Vs being scattered about to many companies?

Been quite a while since I've been back on the forum  just found out I'm only moving down one deck (8-1 to 8-0) so not too bad of a change at all. Not sure how I feel about staying in 8th wing (iykyk) but overall pretty excited to be a Youngster soon!

What's the predominant mindset over there with Herndon climb after Sea trials? My two cents... '26 could end up as the longest time on record in Herndon climb History. DS was indifferent about it... did not really care about it.

Herndon is usually after Sea Trials. I'm sure the desire to be Plebes No More greatly outweighs whatever residual physical fatigue exists on game day. Plus, nobody really remembers their Herndon time. Plebe Summer, Plebe Year and your entire MIDN career slowly blurs together as you move to the next step in your Navy/Marine Corps career.

Plebes can think of it as good training for the many things in life they will find himself doing that they are less then enthused about.

They can choose to re-frame this as not being ‘mandatory fun,” climbing a greased monument in some traditional rite of passage, but a way for then to not think about themselves and support and cheer on classmates after a challenging year, and be part of the larger team that gets it done.

As a parent, my concern is that the '26 Herndon climb is 16 hours after sea trials (bruises, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, cuts, scrapes). Previous climbs were 6 days after trials which gave the plebes time to recover. I understand the concept of being hardcore and let's not go there. I'm spec ops for 25 years out of 30. I just don't want to see my DS get injured which will surely upsets DW.
And yes, the world remembers till time immemorial.

Son and I were at a Welcome Aboard event in the Philadelphia area yesterday where Dean of Admissions Latta spoke.

He made some comments about application numbers this year - said they were very happy with the app numbers being a significant increase over last year (no specifics cited). Running ahead of the other service academies. Specifically noted the “conversion rate” was at 86% this year (going by memory on that one).

My first one started their climb around 12 noon maybe a bit later. It was a civilized hour not 0800. They were seemingly well rested And fit.

They still had at least one taken to the hospital with a head and neck injury before it was over.

Rested vs not rested injury rate? Not sure what you might find.

Good Luck and health to all that will be making the climb. Which does not will not include mine. Coaches orders.

Yes however the opportunity to individually shotgun yourself was available and a fair amount of plebes took advantage of that. There will be new company socials next week as I understand.
