Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

An email from DodMERB came in today. Just in case this was not sent to everyone.

"... As you prepare for in-processing, please note you need to report any new injury or illness to DoDMERB. This DOES NOT include minor illnesses such as colds, sore throat, or COVID. You DO NOT need to report wisdom teeth extractions either.

If you have a new injury or illness to report, please send an email to:

dha.ncr.dod-merb.mbx.helpdesk@health.mil with the date of injury/illness and the specifics of the new condition. The sooner you report this, the sooner we can adjudicate your medical status..."

Does the permanent retainer (wire that fitted to the bottom teeth) need to come out before reporting on I-Day?
not for mine - she has upper and lower permanent retainer - she is class of 25 - she has been the dentist on the yard several times - they have kept them in

Navy people say “0845” and don’t add “hours.” Some other services do that. I’d be interested if the PTR says that - military customs and usage evolve over time.
The email said 0845. I added the hours , force of habit from 25 years in law enforcement . We always had to add the hours when filling out reports .

Report time tip :) I posted this in another thread months back...
If you think you allowed enough time, double it! If you plan on walking on at Gate 1
Last year it sounded like those that hopped on the Bus at Navy/Marine Corps Stadium had a little easier security check prior to getting on bus and getting dropped off at Alumni Hall. Gate 3 was NOT open.

Last yr we stayed at a place about a 15 min walk from Gate 1. DS report time was 9am we left at 8am, and as stated already, arrived at Gate 1 seeing the line wrap around the building🤢. As the mins passed I felt sick thinking OMG my son's 1st day at USNA and he is going to be late. 🤮Not sure why it took so long... We finally got through at 8:57am and faced the 10-15 minute walk from there to Alumni Hall.

I was freaking out inside, but didn't want DS to see. He stayed calm and when he arrived at Alumni Hall, he was reprimanded by a Marine, not for being late, but for his untucked polo shirt 😅 TIP 2 Tuck shirt in ;)

It seemed that the processing line at Alumni Hall was about 45 mins behind as DW and I could hear the Detailers yelling that anyone in line that is from 8:30am needs to move to the front right away!

Between the walk, the stress, and humidity, I was soaked with sweat 😓😅💦. After DS walked through the Alumni Hall doors I left to reshower and get dressed again.

Advice for a 06:15 report time? Are there lines at the gates that early? We will be jet lagged from west coast as well.

Same with us last year.
Note. We're a military family so we drove directly and park across from alumni hall by 0545. If you're not a military family, to maximize time together with all the Shakespearean drama involved, take the shuttle from the stadium. If the first departure time is 0500, then make sure that you are standing next to the bus by 0430.

Like @A1Janitor mentioned, I wouldn’t assume it is the same every year. From my exp. I'd arrive 5:15 if walking on gate 1. If you make it through quickly, grab a bench by chapel and relax and chat with you soon to be Mid. It has been mentioned here in past that wandering early arrivers at Alumni Hall are snatched up by detailers.

So based on the comments above, I'm re-thinking our plan. DD has a 0945 report time. I originally thought about dropping off her and wife by driving through Gate 8. I'd go to stadium and ride the bus back. I was not expecting to see her again until later in the day.

Now I'm wondering if we all just go to stadium and take the shuttle bus in together. We live just under 45 miles away.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

I was a Covid mom so have no personal experience but having just spent a month in DTA, I would say that sounds like a stress-free plan. On a random Thursday DTA traffic is crazy with cars and pedestrians. I cannot even imagine it I Day. A bus with AC sounds amazing.

Travel as a team. Stadium, bus, drop-off at Alumni. Loiter in a safe place if it’s not time to get in line. Just be together. Then you won’t sweat getting back after a drop-off. It’s a supportive atmosphere. Everyone gets you.
