Recruited Athlete

Naval Academy Applicant...

My son has been "triple qualified" (DODMERB, Academic and Physical with nomination from MOC). When he called his Regional Officer he was told that his application was marked as a "recruited athlete". He was aware of this fact.

My question is what does this mean as it relates to his application and appointment? I'm fairly sure it helps but does anyone know how much it helps or where it places his application in the whole scheme of things?

I don't have an answer for you but, I'm wondering how you become a "recruited athlete", particularly in baseball?

The possibility of playing baseball at the Academy would go a "long way" in enticing one of my sons to apply.

Have your son contact the Navy baseball coach. There is also an application/interview/overview form I believe that he would fill out. If the coach is interested he may ask for footage or possibly come watch him play, depending on time.

My son is also a baseball recruit. I would contact Coach Reynolds (recruiting coach) and ask about the next camp they have. If he is interested he will want to evaluate him there (assuming he has not done so yet).

Please keep in mind that he must still qualify for the Acadamy and that the coaches may not use a "chip" to get him in if he is otherwise qualified to get in on his own merit.

However, if they really want him then I am told that is game, set and match as far as an appointment (considering he is otherwise qualified).

Go to www.navysports.com and you will find an application form to fill in and submit. This would be a good starting point. Also at that site you will find contact information for the various coaches; you might have your son's coach compile some film clips and stats on your son's performance and submit those to the baseball coach. It's worth a try - it never hurts to have a coach in your corner.

I've been there and when I "hit" application it brings me back to USNA application.
Video? LOL I'll see. They both play on a very competitive travel team here on Long Island and an even more competitive Catholic HS team but, I've yet to see any videos on any players.
They're playing in "show case" tournaments this summer so, I'll see then. This will likely be after NASS, if selected.

Are you saying he's a recruited athlete and hasn't had any contact with the coach? If that is the case, I don't have any idea what that means - but I'd contact the coach asap.

If he has had contact with the coach, he, and his department should be able to offer some guidance.

My son was a recruited athlete, and the lacrosse department guided us through the process.

If you son receives an LOA, that would really go a long way as well.

Your son was recruited to Annapolis for Lacrosse? Props to him, thats really something :smile:

Tough loss over Loyola today though...

But anyways, definitely try and get to a baseball camp. If it is half as good as the lacrosse I went to, you'll be impressed. Plus the coach(s) will walk around at the 16+ fields and watch the players. You will get a really good view on the athletic portion of being a Mid.
