I applied for the NROTC Marine Option Scholarship back in either October or November. I already had my PFT and Officer Interview. Recently I went online to check and see my scholarship and my status of the scholarship. The message that comes up is:

Application has been submitted online
Your application is at the Marine Corps District for Board Selection.
Items waiting to be processed:

What I'm wondering is if this is a good thing or a bad thing that it is relatively blank?

I believe the NROTC status page is updated by NAVY personnel in Pensacola (?). The Marine Corps districts work on their own timeline and only get info to the folks that enter the data when they are good and ready, lol. So...I would not put to much effort into to checking that everyday. You are much more likely to get notified or get updates on your status from the recruiting officer handling your case.

My son's story: Notified by phone from RO in early Oct that he would be reviewed by the "early board", then notified by phone around Thanksgiving by his RO that he had been awarded a Marine Option scholarship...since then, not a peep, letter or change in status online (still says "at the board for review" and "items missing: officer interview". He called RO yesterday just to check in and was told, be patient, letter should arrive within 30 days. Would love to start planning housing etc, but still don't know what school!

Moral of story...don't rely on the NROTC status page for Marine Option applicants and be ready to WAIT ... I heard you could check directly with Quantico by phone, but not sure of that number.

My son's page says the same thing. Does anyone know when the next board meets?

The board meets on February 26th. My son's status page originally was showing items missing, and a week later it was blank.

Good Luck!

I just received my acceptance letter for my M.O. Scholarship today (2/22/10) and was called by my XO all the way back on Christmas Eve. I was in the DEP so that helps a lot towards the Scholarship because it shows overall that you want to be a Marine first and foremost. The letter was sent out on January 29th so the letters are really slow coming. The big sign for me was that The Citadel accepted me in December and when I got my Scholarship letter, turns out it’s for The Citadel. Also the NROTC website still says I am at the selection board so dont really count on that. Mainly the DoDMERB/College is the "Big Notifier". I noticed that’s a big trend...that the schools find out before the candidate. Good Luck to the rest of the applicants and remember it’s an extremely competitive year for scholarships.

Oorah brother, one of my choices was The Citadel and I was awarded a scholarship today. Was The Citadel your #1 choice?

In 2009 my son was reviewed by the February board and notified in late March by phone of his award. He didn't get the paperwork until early April and the online status changed somewhere between those two dates.

I got my notification on the 18/2/10 and find out that my NROTC is assign at the Citadel too. it's my first choice.

I hate to re-open an old thread... but I'm an NROTC Marine Option Application and my status page says "Your application is at the Marine Corps District for Board Selection" Items waiting to be processed: Science Teacher Eval.

One problem... a science teacher eval isn't required or even optional for the marine option scholarship. My scholarship coordinator doesn't really have a clue what it means and I sent an email to the folks in Pcola about a week ago and haven't heard back yet.

Any Insight?

Call them...I found them to be very responsive on the phone.

When I read this, it does distinguish between Marine and Navy Option as to the required references, but doesn't specify how Marine is different:

1) School Counselor
2) Science, Math, or English teacher (depending on Option)
3) another Teacher, Counselor, Coach or Employer

Did you supply references from both category 2) and category 3)?

Wouldn't the recruiter you're working with locally (the one who set up your Officer Interview) have reviewed your application for completeness?
