Greetings Service Academy Forums,

I am dying of anticipation. I am wondering when USNA will let applicants for NASS know if they have been accepted or not. I applied on the very hour it came out and basically attached my whole resume under the additional comments boxes.

Haven't heard of any notifications nor when they will start. Sorry.

I appreciate your quick response.Thank you

Last year I applied February 3rd and heard back (of acceptance) March 5th.

Presumably, you hear either way. Does it take longer if you are declined an offer?

I was accepted in the last week of April. On the other hand, I applied in March, and it seems like many of you applied on the first possible day...

Last year my son applied to USNA, USMA and USAFA on Feb 1st. Got letter in the mail within a couple of days from USMA and an email from USAFA saying he'd been chosen for their summer sessions. NASS was his first choice, but had to wait until mid April to find out that he'd not been accepted for NASS. He was disappointed, but ended up getting an LoA and subsequently an appointment to USNA.
Bottomline, if for some reason you don't get accepted for a summer session, don't lose hope.

NASS for us is probably "make or break". If not accepted I think they'll lose what interest they have.
Who knows about 16yo boys!?! They're also talking about ND, Villanova and Vandy.
We've received letters of "interest", after their PLAN & PSAT scores came out, from a gazillion schools.
Including NYU and Columbia but, they'll never go to a school in Manhattan.

I understand and yet I don't. While a recruiting tool, NASS is unlikely to take someone who is ambivalent about USNA and turn him/her into a diehard candidate. In my day (yeah, I'm old), there was no such thing as NASS -- at least in its current iteration -- we applied or didn't apply based on what we knew about USNA. Of course, maybe that's one reason why we has such a high attrition rate compared to today.

I guess what I'm saying is that, if you're counting on that to persuade them to apply/attend, you may already be fighting a losing battle.

That said, consider applying to the USMA and USAFA programs; they aren't idential but will still give a young person a good idea of what SA life is like.

I don't expect it to make them "diehard" applicants but, they have heard it's so rigorous from a friends' sister at the Academy that it's "soured" them somewhat. I simply think it will allow them to see with their own eyes albeit on a very small scale.
All things worth having require work.

USMA, USAFA?
With all due respect, perish the thought ;-)

Son applied to usafa, usma, and usna summer seminars. Accepted to USAFA SLS. He attended USAFA SLS and only wanted to apply USAFA and all rotc's. Very Long story short, he withdrew his USAFA app and just signed his acceptance to USNA. At 17, they are just starting to figure out what they want and it has taken almost 1 full year since applying to the SA summer programs for my son to figure it out.

Never say never . . . I have lived in NYC my whole life and it is safer, cleaner and more welcoming than it has ever been. Columbia is situated high up on a hill, over looking the Hudson River, some of the most beautiful property in all of NYC. NYU is the heart of Greenwich Village, interwined with the streets of lower Manhattan.

I know this is a Service Academy forum but I bristled a little that great schools like my alma mater NYU and Columbia could be shunned because of location.

No, don't get me wrong about the city. Love to sit on a bench in Washington Park, people watching. The Village is quaint, great restaurants. Like the museums uptown, too. We're on LI so, we go in frequently.
One of my sons just doesn't like the crowds.

The reason I suggested USAF and USMA summer programs is that they can help kids who don't know much about the military -- or whether the military is for them -- learn about it. And, depending on where you live, timing, etc., one of them MAY be easier for your sons to be accepted to. (As an aside, I would be a bit surprised if both sons got NASS the same year -- but I've been surprised before:rolleyes:).

USNA "counts" attendance at other SA SS's the same as it does attendance at NASS. Doesn't count for much, but counts for a little. So other SA programs could be a good option for folks out there.

If they accept one twin without the other, that could be problematic

I really appreciate every one's responses. Thank you! I am still waiting!!!
