The pressure is on! 4/c are taking (and passing :smile::smile:) their Indoc Boards. Whoo hoo....on the road to carry on. In a month or two maybe? Hopefully sooner, but given last year it wasn't til the end of April, I am not getting my hopes too high for the class of 2013...yet! Go get 'em 2013!

OH No! I hope they're doing good. Carry on is basically being normal, right? No square meals, corners, one can talk and be socialable, etc.

What are the indoc boards exactly. I'm imagining 4/c needs to know all their drills, military knowledge, academic finals.

When 4/c return from winter break, they're given about a 50 page packet worth of indoc that they need to study...it usually contains things like the history of the coast guard, the different cutters and aircraft, etc. The 4/c have three tries to pass. Once the entire class passes, the 4/c typically receive wardroom carry on, meaning they don't have to square meals and they can actually talk to one another. However, they do still have to square corners, brace up, etc. outside of the wardroom.

My son said last night that he had aced his indoc (10 for 10) and was very relieved!

trackandfield pretty much has the gist of it. When they actually take the board they first have to say the mission while two 2/c inspect their uniform and yell (which actually messes a lot of them up). They then have to answer 8 out of 10 questions correctly while standing at attention to pass.

They have been working hard all semester and it showed last night. About 70% have passed thus far. The ones that failed and those who couldnt take it last night due to sports excusals will be taking them the rest of the week.

Very Cool CenTex and thanks Track and BR2011 for the 411.

Seems a little early to think about Carry-on....not to mention Wardroom carryon generally comes before full carry on.

We got carry on a week or two before graduation.

<----Never yelled while inspected the uniform, talking into the ear of the 4/c can be just as effective.

I failed my first 4/c board.

I had 4/c fail their first boards.

That first board, you might have some nerves, but you know what to expect the second time around.

4/c boards....now you're taking me back!

Hey, a mom can dream right LITS?

I'm just happy that the kid can worry about studying for classes right now, not boards. One less thing to worry about!

70%? Wow that is great! :thumb:

Haha, true. There are few places in the world where students look forward to finals....CGA would be one of them. :thumb:

2011 had it the worst. i was given carry on at change of command, then left 8 hours later for my summer assignment. So i basically did not have it as a 4/c.

Oh that stinks. Good thing the upperclass this year are so much nicer....

Seriously though, it will be nice for the 4/c to have even the smallest privileges back...like seeing your food before it enters the mouth...or the shirt-front...or the lap. :shake:

2011 did not double time in boots and leathers at all times, everywhere.

Once you got rid of that, Carry-on just meant you could look around.

Something tells me...the worst was some time around 1876.
