What kinds of things are issued at summer seminar? I saw on the booklet 4 shirts, 2 shorts, and a polo shirt. I also says "a windbreaker and other seminar items; e.g. backpack, pens, etc." What else could they give you? Sounds like a lot already.

I think most of the other things would depend on what classes you took - I know my son built and soldered a circuit that he got to keep in one class, got some math pencils/water bottle in another, and things like that. The windbreaker was really nice; the backpack was more a lightweight sling one, not a full-size one. He wears the polo shirt ALL the time, but didn't much care for the t-shirt and shorts they were issued (shorts were too short - he does wear his Navy ones though). I think he got a kind of notebook/binder too, as well as typical "propaganda" stickers, etc.

I attended the summer seminar at USAFA for summer 2009 and we were given

4 PT shirts
2 Shorts
1 Polo Shirt
2 Backpacks
1 Windbreaker
1 Dayplanner/Binder
1 Pen
1 PT Towel
1 Water Bottle

wow they really load you up... 2 backpacks? And i assume that by PT towel you don't mean a bath towel right, just a sweat towel... and what if you take the rocket class, does anyone know if you get to keep a rocket model?

I went to Summer Seminar too this past year, took the rocket class and the glider class and I got to keep both (what was left of them). As for the two backpacks, one is the sling thing already mentioned (gave it to my mom) and the other is an awesome shoe bag with a giant Air Force Emblem on it that I use allll the time

Ohh, and a lot of people's water bottles busted, but they got new ones. the bottom broke out of mine only a couple weeks after I got home...

Does that mean like a duffel bag?

I dropped mine in the hallway first thing in the morning (before PT) on Doolie-for-a-day and it smashed. It was REALLY fun asking for a new one!

lol I think I came home and washed mine...it didn't last. The windbreaker is really nice though. My polo was too big but I love the PT shirts and the PT shorts are alright except the lack of pockets.

The towel is like a regular beach sized towel. We used it during PT to lie on instead of the ground because it isn't smooth concrete; it's bumpy and filled with small smooth rocks (wow that is a bad description haha). You do get to keep the rocket. It is small like a foot tall maybe and made from cardboard. That is to say if it isn't destroyed you can keep it .

Yes, that's pretty much the worst thing that can happen. Remember that Doolie-for-a-day is not what fourth class cadets go through everyday and it really should be called basic-for-a-day (although the last silver weekend wasn't far from basic, imo).

The binder they give you has a large pad of paper in it. Be sure to make use of that when you have element time.

Take some notes on the "requirements" for Doolie/Basic day, like the meal info and what hand your water bottle is supposed to be in (don't remember that one, but they certainly do:wink: )

Oh, and never forget your hat! Having to keep your hand on your head can make for a long morning. And remember to take your hat off immediately when you get inside. I remember some poor guy getting reamed by the cadre because he had his hat on in the hallway.

Haha yay the hat thing will be easy for me. I'm so used to having my hat/taking it off when I get inside from ROTC.
