I have been in contact with MAJ Adisa King (the ODIA for football) and in a recent email he told me the football team was full. then i emailed him asking if i could still be appointed as a normal(non athlete) cadet.this was his reply

"there is not a possibility because the class is over filled. There are over 700 kids on the national waiting list."

If they want you for the team they might offer you USMAPS or an AOG spot.

Well doesn't that mean that you are on the NWL? Don't give up hope yet until an official rejection letter comes. You never know....

Did he tell you if you've been placed on the NWL or if you application has been looked at?
Since you are no longer a recruited athlete as the team is full, can't you go back to your regional person now and ask how your application is going?

ya i am on the NWL. I think it is a bad year to be on the NWL

Adam Vinatieri was originally recruited to kick for Army and attended West Point for two weeks in 1991 before deciding to return home to South Dakota. Adam has four Super Bowl rings.

Yes it is. We were told in Jan. that they should take around 400 off the list but two weeks ago were told that they would probably be making almost no appointments off the list this year with the way things were going.

Sorry for asking. I didn't realize that you had received the letter telling you that you are triple qualified and were placed on the National Waiting List.

i never received the letter i called my MALO and he told me

You will get a letter from them notifying you of your status. It will say "The admissions office has reviewed all of your information and the admissions committee has reviewed your application. You have been found fully qualified and placed on the national waiting list."

It will discuss other things and tell you that you are still competing for admission and should continue to update your record with significant achievements.

My MALO said they dont send those to everybody.

I guess your MALO told you something different than what we were told by our Admissions person who is the Southeast person. It came from our Southeast admissions team not our MALO. He had told us that after my son's application was reviewed he would either receive an appointment or if he didn't a letter stating the above if he was found fully qualified and placed on the NWL. My son received the NWL letter as did all the people that he knows that also applied and didn't get the appointment.

Since you're in the Southwest Admissions area maybe you would want to get in touch with them to see about getting your copy of the letter. It's a nice thing to have for your file.

I will def. get in touch with them. But.........MAybe....just maybe its a good thing. Maybe there is an appointment on the way?!

Bobby J -Here is my advice (which, I admit, is not worth much!)

Can you afford a trip to West Point? If possible schedule a visit and go. You will have an opportunity for a face to face review of your file.
If you can't visit - do the next best thing:
Since it looks like Football is dropping you, go back to your Regional Admissions officer. Email him, explain to him that football looked at you and has let you go. Stress to him that you are indeed still interested in West Point and becoming an Army officer.
Ask him how you stack up and what you can do to improve yourself. If your application is weak, ask about prep school.
Grovel. Really. show the love. After you have done that - you have done all you can.

Good luck kiddo - there is always the chance to apply again from ROTC.

I have been in contact with both my regional and Athletic admissions officers and they both hve told me that the prep school as well as USMA are overfilled and no appointments will be made unless one or 2 kids declines heir appointments. So.....Its over =(.

Hey if things don't work out, you can always apply next year. That will show them determination.

Your regional admissions officer told you that the class of 2014 was completely overbooked and that there wouldn't be any appointments made at all from the national waiting list this year????? Every single appointment has been given out and accepted?

pretty much. he said they overbooked so even if some kids dont accept the appointments they will still be full.

As with any other college, they always "overbook", i.e., assume that some percentage of appointments will be declined. If you check on another thread, Capt.Cuevas posted on her website that there were still 500 seats to go as of about two weeks ago. I know the Admissions board is busy, but I can't believe they'd get through 500 that fast. Do any of the MALOs have more current information?

Just_A_mom. this is the email I sent to my Regional admissions officer. If you could, please tell me what you think. thank you.

Dear sir,
I have recently been told by Major King that the USMA football team is full of recruits. Now that I am no longer a recruited athlete I would like to know my chances of admission. Also, if an appointment to USMAPS is possible. I just want to stress how much I want to go to USMA and become a leader in the U.S. Army. Thank you sir.
