    ROTC DEERS enrollment

DS has the same circumstances - still on our tricare as mil dependent in deers while in college doing ROTC. His unit had no problem getting him a CAC card for ROTC purposes. Maybe have your daughter's unit HR person reach out to the NROTC HR POC at Rice University?

    DoDMERB & Medical Records

DS1 is about to go on terminal leave after a 4 year enlistment in USMC. I urged him to ensure he had a copy of his medical record before he leaves base - he does, it's electronic, and it contains all medical info from his life as a dependent. GENESIS has at least connected all medical info...

    ROTC and TRICARE Insurance

We moved DS to TRICARE select so he could meet with his (former Prime PCM) doc when at home, and at school without a referral if necessary. Of note, DS school location is in TRICARE East and we're in TRICARE West - which requires a completely separate TRICARE account (so more $$ than if we were...

    School Uniform to ROTC interview?

For DS' Marine option interview in 2020 (same day as PRT), he arrived in khaki slacks, collared shirt with tie, suit jacket borrowed from Dad, and dress shoes. After an admin screen for paperwork, he changed into PT gear for the PRT, then after changed back to dress clothes. Waited for 2 1/2...

    Marine Option Interview Questions

DS was asked to explain "leadership" as well as "why a Marine?" After PFT, a rather large group sat around for 4-5 hours waiting for interviews. Most had dress pants, collared shirt, tie and suit jacket - but ended up interviewing in shirt sleeves and a tie (with a good haircut).

Is this true? Text from recruiter

My DS worked through the local USMC recruiter to complete his ROTC application paperwork, and was NOT sold hard on enlisting after he said he was not interested. After receiving a 4 year scholarship and completing freshman year, DS got a phonecall from the same USMC recruiting office asking how...

    2023 NROTC Review Board

My DS put his favorite long-shot school as #2, after conferring via email with the school's NROTC battalion that they always had available slots as it was so competitive for admissions. He put his #1 school at a "target" school - one he really liked and where he was a likely admit. Upon...

Likelihood of scholarship without Varsity sports

DS earned an early board MC NROTC scholarship WITHOUT a varsity sport. He had 4 years XC, with junior year as JV (our boys varsity usually goes to state). Also a black belt martial arts by sophomore year. ~260 USMC PFT score. It's definitely possible to do it without varsity sports. We also...

    NROTC NSI 3 weeks now?

My DS got an email today from his unit saying he is "waitlisted" for NSI Session 2. Until that's finalized, no way to tell when DS needs to show up at school, as I expect individual units would have to do some kind of orientation prior to freshman orientation.

    Guidance sought

and if for some reason those forms are not forthcoming in your timeframe, you can message me (not sure how that works on this forum?) and I can forward a pdf file of all the various forms which we were sent (including the doc approval to take the PFT form) ...there is no form #, so it's probably...

    Guidance sought

For our doc, he was happy to sign that "OK to take PFT test" form, based on a high school sports physical from a few months prior. This is just so that your kid can complete the USMC application screening process (take the PFT and do the interview, usually on the same day). Once your DS opens...

    Guidance sought

for NROTC-MO, expect it to take longer and more effort than you'd think! Our regional POC emailed all candidates with open applications in late-August to announce the screening process for the first board in November. The date was the second Sat after Labor day, and was to take the PFT, submit...

    NROTC-MO Scholarship First Choice School

DS put two schools up top, ones he was reasonably confident of getting into and which were his leading contenders (there was also a reasonable expectation of good merit aid at both). His real desire he put at #3, and it was a reach with no expectation of admission. We contacted the #3 ROTC...

    Any truth to the rumor?

So important to decide on a college that will work financially regardless of ROTC. So many things can change a student's course - from simply deciding military isn't what they want, to becoming medically unqualified, or a big manpower change directed by budgets.

    AROTC award presentation

My DS 1 graduated two years ago from a public high school in WA, and enlisted USMC. A woman at church congratulated his choice and opined that she was disappointed that our high school did not recognize her son’s enlistment the year before. Our high school DID recognize SA and ROTC at senior...
