    Hernia surgery

A little unrelated, but what if you break your arm, get a hernia, etc (some sort of physically disabling injury) during BCT? Do they send you home? I'm guessing if you get injured after BCT, they'll treat you and you get to stay, right?

    SF86 Foreign Travel Section 20C

The directions for the Foreign Travel Section (20C, pg. 83) are a little ambiguous. By travel/trips do they simply mean a temporary thing where you return to the US? I grew up in Europe and have been to a ton of different countries and routinely went to neighboring countries for day...

    Questions?

It's not only placement tests, from what I understand. For example, I don't think there is a physics placement test; but if you took physics at the collegiate level, you get transfer credits.

Official USAFA Class of 2016 Appointment thread

Because any time your browser connects to an HTTPS website (think of it as a "secure" version of HTTP), your browser looks for a certificate that is signed by some certificate authority. Note that whenever you connect to most websites (that are only HTTP), you don't get any sort of security...

    Questions?

Individual experiences vary, I guess. I do the ice cream hack, too...but still find it very difficult to eat as much as I have to eat. Ah. That's too bad. But the extra year isn't a big deal, I think. I actually applied as a sophomore in college! Anyway, now you have more time to prepare (and...

    Questions?

If money is a concern, chicken and tuna are cheap. If you're serious about gaining, you want to aim for at least 1 lb of meat per meal (with the exception of breakfast where you can substitute eggs for the meat--and I'm talking about 7-8 eggs for breakfast with a good amount of bacon). A lot...

    Questions?

That's absurdly light. I'm 195 at your height. In your case, I think gaining weight would be prudent, and if you did a strength program, you'd gain like crazy (because of the so-called "noob gains"). Of course, even if you do decide to gain weight, you have to keep your running up as well...

    Questions?

Nah, I've read mostly that if you actually eat you'll be fine (I had the same concerns!). I wasn't advising him to put on a lot of fat, but rather muscle. And at 170 lbs at 6', you could benefit from that as well. But if you chose not to do that, I'm sure you'll be fine regardless.

    Questions?

Simple solution: gain weight. You have three months left before BCT. Plenty of time to gain 10-15 lbs, especially if you're as skinny as you say you are. I'm doing this myself. If you're looking for a workout program, the obvious route is Starting Strength...

Official USAFA Class of 2016 Appointment thread

Alright, didn't realize it would take so long. I'll wait another week, and if I still haven't heard anything, I'll bother them with a call. Thanks again!

Can anyone give me an idea of the time frame between the first BFE and the second one? I sent in my acceptance in early March, and still haven't received anything. Thank you!

    Pilots License

But you don't lose your license if you don't stay current (you just have to do the flight review every 24 calendar months), that's only for carrying passengers. On that note, after I got my license, I literally didn't fly for almost two years. And I forgot quite a bit and did not feel qualified...

    My current situation

I actually agree on this point too! Having a strong foundation in any subject makes it much easier later on. I took calculus twice myself for this very reason. In strange coincidence, I skipped Algebra I myself. It didn't sound like she was truly struggling with pre-calculus, and since she...

    My current situation

This is a silly approach and would probably not serve you well at the Academy. Next time, if the textbook is proving difficult for you, just look for a new one suited to your needs. Do not blame your failure on the textbook. Also, if it turns out you don't get into the Academy, realize that...

Official USAFA Class of 2016 Appointment thread

I didn't apply to an SR nor to an ROTC program out of HS. But my parents have always encouraged the "have fun with it" approach, and it's served me well. (Especially now, where my exams are not just regurgitating knowledge and you have to figure out something/be mathematically creative--it's...
