  • I hope this message finds you doing well! I have read some of your posts and I see that you are at NAPS. My son is a recruited track athlete and we are hoping he gets into NAPS. We know (because of test score) he will not go right into the Academy, which are perfectly fine with us.

He was diagnosed with Dyslexia a year and half ago. Since then his grades have climbed. But ACT really hurts him all the reading etc. That is the only thing missing, a good ACT score. Otherwise, he is top candidate, from what he have been told.... What is your take? I know there is no formula for NAPS but maybe you have insight on this chances? Any info/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Did he pass DoDMERB with dyslexia? I don't know if that is disqualifying. There's a huge range of academic abilities here. If the ACT is what is stopping him, they will help him study and have him retake it if he makes it into NAPS. There are 20 or so people doing that this year. The academics here are tough, and people who did really well in high school struggle here.

Most of your day is spent in class, doing homework, or studying, so he may really struggle. I'm not a recruited athlete, so I wasn't in contact with any coaches prior to coming here. You could try speaking to them about NAPS, but make sure he is the one making contact, not you. Coaches can seemingly do a lot to get people they want where they want them.
